They "Say" the hole/pool right at the dock for the maid of mist is one of the GREATESS GLORY/HONEY HOLES of all time!
20 years ago a friend of mine had special access and would confirm the myth.

Anyone have an "Uncle" working for the Niagara Parks department?

20 years ago you didn't need special permission, hell you could still walk down the Hydro access road to fish the Canadian side of Devils Hole without a private SWAT team swarming after you, now THAT was a glory hole. The Maid of the Mist was never better than the Whirlpool for salmon & trout, but was a killer secret spot for summer smallmouth.

And sure Italo may seem like a nice born again bible thumper, but he still filmed shows fishing in sanctuaries, snagged fish so he could move the bait into it's mouth to film landing segments, fished out of season on spawning beds and generally played fast & loose with pretty much every fishing reg there is. But atleast he seemed generally remorseful when he got busted. Now Hank, THAT guy was always a jerk, even when he was just another charter captain.

Used to walk down that road many a time.
Good friend from St. Catharines ... would bring me & brother.

We would use: 11 Ft rods (FibreGlass back then)
Bottom Bounce Roe Bags with a few floaters added in, Big Egg Sinker - 3ft up the line.

Bows, Lakers, Browns .... Some Nights (early morning) would hit 20+ fish each!
Those were the days

and the "Hydro Guys"... (Cops, CO;s) Would actually enjoy watching all the action!

I never found him to be "arrogant" or act like a "Know it all"

We all entiltled to our opinions .. yours included!
But.... seriously: No need to call him a "Hack"

We all pick up "Pointers" from other fishermen ... (and can be having "off Days")

Hey.

Just a heads up. After the wind storm this weekend and the crazy amount of rain and wind we are supposed to get on Wednesday, Niagara will be blown.

We checked it out on Sunday and it was brown as poo, and higher than I've seen it in a long time.

As a rule, if there is a sustained West wind for a day, of like 25+ km/h , then Niagara will be mud, as all the dirt and mud from Erie will blow right into the river and over the falls.

Best thing to do is check the Webcams for the Rainbow bridge the day before. Here is a link. Rainbow Bridge Webcam

As you can see right now the water is brown. It should be emerald green.

We checked it out on Sunday and it was brown as poo, and higher than I've seen it in a long time.

I said that because hes gone down many times already and gotten skunked.

Easier to catch fish in prime visibility, at least to build your confidence.

The Whirlpool can be one of the most FRUSTRATING PLACES in the Universe.
You see them jumping, you know their ..there.

Every time I go, I try to talk as much as I can with the "Locals".
Hint: "if you bring a garbage bag down with you and clean up a bit, you score super BROWNIE POINTS with them"

I had some of the most "TIGHT LIPPED" ones give me some great advice that way.

PS: I'm going to hit some GTA tribs this weekend and/or Continue my Quest for FALL PIKE.
I'm not one to wait for GIN CLEAR FISHING, but I do think the conditions for the POOL will be rather on the tough side.
