Lighted Floats

Lately, i've come upon a fishing float by the brand of National (Like the rice cooker National Brand) but only to find out at that store it is 20 bucks for one. Yes, it looks like a really good float and all, and i like how its those ones where you thread through an elastic and the float to keep it secure. but that price is wayyyyyyy too much for me . Lol.

I've read about the home-made floats that you guys on the forums use, and the ones at basspro and lebaron only has the spring ones for the lighted floats. but does anyone know where i can get a hold of a lighted float that uses elastics to hold the float in place and wont cost me a fortune?

Walmart or Canadian Tire have slip bobbers with LED lights in them..7-8 bucks and work great!

LeBaron has lighted floats that are for slip float, for under 6.00 made by thill. They also sell the blackbird nite float which should work.

Lol, theyre mainly used for panfish at night. Theyre actually quite helpful when you dont want to drag things across weeds and other debree at the bottom of a lake.

That actually is the store im talking about. The National one there is 20 bucks. i Guess they have another one? not sure about that.

my favourite is the blue fox firefly lighted float.
it's small, easy to cast, and also can be used as a clip on float or a slip.

Ya I bought my floats from walmart and they work great, I alos rigged up a contraption using the extra little led light that came with my float, and used a small piece of duct tape on my rod to attatch it to the tip. This helps alot at night when your looking for shy bites.I used it when i was fishing last year for salmon on Bronte Peir,
Another great way is to get a normal slip bobber, with no light. Then go to the dollar store and look for the glow sticks that are small the ones people stick in their mouths, their about and inche long. rig up somehitn, or drill a small hole so the glow stick will sit snuggly and crak it to get it to glow, jamit in and away you go. I get the small ones for 1 for 2 sticks, one stick last all night, so you beat those high prices by being inventive.

Maybe you should also get one of those fishing line that react to UV lights or something.

You can also get a float now that kind of works backwards. No light is visable TILL the fish hits. Once the bobber is pulled down, a connection is made and it lights up,,showing a hit.
Supposed to help your reaction time as well.
..never used one tho..

thanks for all the tips guys. i actually went last saturday and got a float from lebaron ..some thill night float one..And while fishing, the bobber got stolen by a big fish. broke my line and i was watching my bobber swim away. Other than that fish thoguh, i got skunked :twisted: hopefully i'll get something worth reporting in the near future to actually report on.

I just thought...

What if you take one of those light stick that you crack to make it glow and put it in the tube jig? Especially red lights.

Heck maybe some how one could attach it during fall salmoning?!

You can try it before salmon season for Walleye at night you never know it may work very well.

You would definitely test to see exactly how buoyant the light stick is because ideally you want to weight one end so that it sticks nicely out of the water.

good Idea Mikey, I think I will try that at the grand River this weekend, Walleye are plentiful their for sure, and even ramming one threw the side of a mister twister would prolly work, but the tube jig idea has me thinking.....

I thought it was for night fishing so you can see your float sink when you get a bite! ... anyhow, the have mini glowsticks that you crack and han onto your line. Lasts 8 hours!!! We use those just above the float just like a lighted float! Very cheap.. don't remember the price. And now we got these red led light that you turn on and off. I guess these are good if you are not going to fish 8 hours straight at night!

So you waste a few hours while not using the light. At least it doesn't burn out after 15 min. I think this is worth a try and it won't break the bank.
