I need to spoil myself. I really do not need it but I want it. I am buying a Diawa Tierra reel 3000 or better. I am looking for a sensitive rod for it. I need m or m/h. I fish Walleye, Bass and Pike mainly. So, what would you suggest?

I looked at it. It is nice but a friend had one and he said his Ugly Sticks.were more sensitive. He fishes in tournaments and we seem to fish very similar.

I doubt that uglystiks are more senstivie. The tip on those rods absorbs so much of the vibration that they cannot be more sensitive. Your friend may be very familiar and comfortable with the Ugly Stiks, but unless he was looking at a fibreglass HMX, then I don't see how it could be more sensitive. Just because your friend fishes tournaments, it does not mean that his opinion is more valid than any others. You may trust him more becuase you know him and his abilities, but you must consider that, if money is on the line, you will use gear that you have comfort and confidence in. For your friend that is likely the ugly stik. There is nothing wrong with that. But also consider that sensitivity is a personal thing, unique to each angler. What one person looks for as "sensitive" may be completely different than what another looks for. Perhaps he likes the wide oscillation of the uglystick tip, and to him, this is what indicates senstivity. i prefer a fast (stiff) action rod that is very light in the tip, so that vibration are transfered down the rod, and not localized at the tip.

I don't fish tournaments, but I do own 3 or 4 ugly sticks in ul to ml powers - mainly for panfishing. I would never say that they are as sensitive as some of my faster action rods.

As far as your request, what is your budget? 1 piece, 2 piece?

With a 3000 size daiwa, I would probably get a MH rod for balance. If you had a 2500 or 2000 sized reel, i would look at medium power. My personal preferences lead me to a fast action, 7' rod for better casting, or 6'6" for more general use. If you are looking to spend upwards of $200, take a look at the Fuego. If you are looking more in the $100 range, look at the Carbonlite at BPS.

Thanks for the responce. I am looking for a 2 piece. Price is max at $150. As for size 6'6" to 7. I have a number of ugly stiks and love them. I am looking for something with more sensitivity. There are so many new rods out there and I am not sure which one. In the lake I fish most I mainy catch Walleye, Pike and Bass. There are others but that sees to be the main. There is the bothersome long nose Gar. Again thanks for the responce.

x2 on the HMX

I love my 7foot HM, fast action tip HMX. Totally in your price range. Further, customer service at Fenwick is amazing. My cousin snapped an older model HMX, he called Fenwick, no warranty, they still replaced it no questions, he paid for shipping. Can't beat good equipment backed by great customer service.
