Maps of Forks of the Credit area showing public lands

Hi, everyone. Would like to know if any organization produces a map of the Forks of the Credit (yes, I know we're not supposed to name rivers, but that is the name of the place! Lol) that shows which properties/lands along that river and its tribs are public vs private?

Have checked numerous sites and have gathered bits and pieces of info, but nothing too detailed.

Planning to park at the Forks and follow the river up into the park within the next couple weeks to scout that section and would also like to try some of the small tribs sometime BUT not make the mistake of trespassing on private property and turning property owners off fly fishers.

I think if you park at the forks and go upstream you're fine.

Yes, I realize that upstream of the upper part of the Forks is the prov park.

Think I should have been more specific ... meant if there is some kind of map of the area west and east of the Forks as to what parts of the river and its tribs are public and which private.

Know that a trout org the name of which escapes me at the moment has negotiated access to that river with some of the property owners in the area, but it seems like one has to actually go there and walk around and look for the signs and since I've heard that some don't allow you to cross their property even if you walk through in the river itself, how is one supposed to know where access is granted and where it isn't!

Know that the lower portion of the Forks of that river is private land and that the nice parts of that river north and south of the public section that runs thru Ken Whillans run thru private property with no trespassing signs (btw, scouted the section that runs thru Ken Whillans last week and it doesn't appear to have any good spots for holding trout, tho just north of it are lots of great sets of riffles).

A good way of finding out more information on the upper credit river is to join Greg Clark Chapter of Trout Unlimited. There's a bunch of guys that fish that area that may be willing to share the type of info you are looking for. They also do a great job of helping to maintain and improve that river and could use more support and more help.

Try canoeing the Credit web site, good read and it might help you with private and public lands. Don't forget about the different rules that apply in that stretch of waters.

While it would be great to find some other good spots for browns, managed to catch some in Forks Pk last year. Since we ARE talking about fly fishing for spooky, smaller, res trout on light gear, even bagging one an outing is nice.

Now on the hunt for brookies (mebbe I ought to change my username lol), but have heard from several ppl that u can only find them quite a bit north and west of the Forks. Time to do pre-season research

Btw, Graham, caught ur appearance on NFF where u & Colin fished the Credit and found ur tip about using coloured line instead of an indicator for nymphing very useful.

The river is an awesome place to fly fish, the locals hate seeing anyone with anything else, i had my pin the one day and everyone who seen me had to remind me of the reg's. (i was floating small flys just off bottom) the property owners are a bit talkative and are always concerned with whos fishing what and where. if you stay in the river and dont step on the land, your not really trespassing, but they will argue that the water is non- navigable (by boat, kayak ect..)so there for is private as well.

so al in all with a good attitude and the local knowledge of reg's it should make for a great day.

Screw it, gonna ask anyway (lol): were u above, east, or west of the Forks? Couple ppl have told me they were (politely) told that they were trespassing - think one guy was close to Erin and the other near Belfountain (sp?)

Dont understand why maps of Caledon dont distinguish betw public and private land.

MapArt, etc maps of Toronto colour public parkland, etc in green, so u know u can fish there (unless ministry regs say otherwise) and then its just a matter of finding out if there is a lot in the park or legal nearby street parking.

Because most of the access is private land with negotiated access. Boots to the ground it part of the game

Only been to the Grand once and that was a lifetime ago ... barely remember.
If I can ever get an entire day to myself, that's a place I'd like to go.
