Started making this bait last fall, it was my first time making a mega wooden bass popper (still have to test it). I also added red VMC Sure Set hooks to it for better hooksets & it looks good with the bait. I spray painted it & then sealed it with cheapo cdn tire automotive paints & sealent, which I'm somewhat regretting now, but made it more affordable to paint. I was kinda rushing it but the paintjob would've looked a lot nicer if I had ordered some vinyl paints that are actually made for detailing baits, you can get that stuff at Lurecraft & luremaking.com etc.

Haha. That's a huge bait. What kind of wood do you use?

Hah thnx man ;) I used red cedar (@t home depot) for this particular project since it was my first hard-bait & I read somewhere that red cedar is great for beginners lurecrafters. But if you want to go all out, and step up the quality, you could juut as easily get some pine or mahoghany which are of the more harders woods, the baits last longer but its harder to carve the wood.

All I can say is WOW!

If you want to test that lure, I know of one particular pond that will devirginize that lure ---> Markham pond XX... (The one that I caught the crappie in) If that lure doesn't catch fish there, it won't catch anywhere. In fact, that particular pond is a great place to test all your lures.

I can't wait to see some reports with your homemade lures such as this one!

LOL, that's where I was going to test it out :D You psyhic or something !? :D In-fact thats my favorite top-water pond, it was a natural choice to test it out there, I just hope the lure runs properly.. the body of it is a little crooked. I'm even contemplating making a 2nd one with a bigger lip on it so it can spit more water.
