Okay...lately i have been custom painting baits as many of you know. I have a place to get blanks of certain models of LuckyCraft and Megabass and want to know what you guys think of the high end crankbaits that cost between $15 and $30 each. Please include model #'s of the ones you like or dislike.(for $30 a piece you'd better like 'em!! lol)

The ones i am getting no matter what are:
Megabass vision ito 95 (sold out...grr...the only megabass crank i have used so far)
Megabass vision ito 110
Megabass vision ito 130 magnum

Lucky Craft
RC 2.5
POinter 100

An update
I have been using my custom painted megabass ito vision 95 and WOW!! In one day i landed a dozen bass on it over 2 lbs, 2 over 4lbs, and one being a 19 1/2" pig of a largie! Ahh yep! $25-30 for a crankbait is crazy, but now i am thinking otherwise!! (goes and orders 20 unpainted megabass ito 110mm blanks and 20 megabass ito 130 magnum blanks) Even the blanks with no hardware are expensive when compared to other similar baits.($6 each + shipping) The erratic action of the lures is nothing like i have even seen before.

But yeah....dont buy any megabass lures as they are expensive! ;)

I get the megabass blanks off a guy in the states on ebay.

There is also a bunch of other places to buy good quality non megabass blanks from. Do searches for:
real pros sportfishing (ontario based!)
janns netcraft
predator bass baits
bustin bass baits

As for it being a winter hobby, if you have a shop to work in with a compressor/airbrush then great, but spraypaints shouldnt be sprayed in the house. I am waiting on a load of fifty lures to show in the mail and i am painting like crazy to get them all done. The resin stage can be done in a ventilated room in the house over the course of the winter.

I use a few Lucky Craft pointers and slenders when nothing else works. Similar to husky jerks but when even husky jerks don't work, Lucky Crafts do.

I dig the Pointers, 78's for smallmouth & 128's for pike. I didn't want to like them because they are so darn expensive to get but they ARE the shiznit.
Remember it's not just the blanks but the brass weights too! I picked up some knockoffs for 1/3 the price, but they don't work anywhere near as well, they had lead tape for weight, don't suspend properly and they sound different going through the water. I don't know what it is with brass but fish like it better than lead or steel. My brass spoons catch more salmon, my rattle baits with brass shot catch more fish, and brass weights make a nicer thump Carolina rigging tubes for smallies.

I do have a colour request, it is popular with Euro baits but not so much here called "Roach". Mercer had a signature line of Rapala's sold out of BPS that were baited up with it, but other than that it's hard to find. It's a light brown/ matte copper, it looks like a smallmouth-centric colour but it works on almost everything.

Edit -- Found UT link to it, though hard to see. http://youtu.be/YBbFzBKisVo

And try reversing the light/dark colouration on a few baits, dark belly light back.

I've been making my own baits for awhile, started out of cost but now I do it to get exactly the colours & action I want. It's amazing how two identical baits can have different actions just by mixing up the weights you put in it.

Thanks for the input guys! Its great to have another bait maker on board! I am going to bit the bullet and buy a pointer and a megabass vision 110 and do a test vs the blanks i am buying. Though i dont have $40 for 2 lures right now..lol
I'll have to try the reversing dark lights. I have some plans for the silver plated 110's i am waiting on in the mail.

Lol careful with with the chrome lures. I did a few with silver foil and they didn't work that great, took a little pondering but then I realized I was trying to catch fish with a mirror.
The ultimate camouflage, I named that colour "Predator". Those are the baits I leave on da'choppa!
