LOL! No BS- I landed a fish with a huge Rapala rattle bait attached to its tail. I took it off the tail, revived it and let him go.
Wierd people would use that in a river.

.
I don't know about the rattling types, but quite a few use normal Rapalas, e.g. J -9s, in the rivers.

Rapala RNR sinks pretty fast. I wouldn't call it a snagging bait though because chances are there's someone out there who uses it properly, lol.

Interesting. I have seen mepps in the rivers. Never these "bass style" baits. Weird. I will have to post a pic of it, hopefully this evening if I can.

on the weekend i found a tangled bunch of lines with a coupa spinners and hooks on it, one hook was literally ___________________________ big about 3 inches

When you buy a tag at the tackle shop it would be recorded in the system as to how many tags you have purchased and the co could check this on his laptop and if Boris has a fish and no tag it would be a similar charge as keeping a fish without a license now !!! I think it would be easier to catch the poachers and if he is only allowed a limited number of tags per season I it would make it easier to regulate .. I think?? But that's my view on it

thats quite smart, i think the point of it being abandoned like on a stringer, tell everyone that all of them are gonna be fined one of them is gona give the poacher up

Tags- too many loop holes.I am sure boris and friends would formulate a way to resume these tags. Also, when you catch a fish, leave it un tagged untill the CO is around, who knows how many trips you can go on before running into a CO.

ex I buy 10 tags. CO isnt around I go home with 10 fish un tagged. Its the same thing, just chaising our tails.

I agree that MNR needs to do something about growing thier budget, but how I think it the major question. I vote for topless car washes.

It isn't perfectly laidout for the ministry to put in to circulation but the system we have doesn't work worth a dam either !! It's just an idea for a possible solution the the illegal fishing going on right now in ontario

Here’s a solution that would not cost the OMNR a dime and would not punish the rest of us who adhere to the regs:

For those who do get caught poaching, keeping over the limit, snagging, etc:

Instead of issuing a fine, let their punishment be X hours of “community service”. In this case the required community service would be working at the fish lifts, hatcheries, etc... The number of hours (X) required would be calculated in a way such that 100% of the aggregate damage done to the fishery by all reg breakers, plus enforcement expenses would be offset by the service done by those who get caught. A zero sum game.

and we have our next MNR president right here

My opinon on this my differ from others on the forum, but if I where fishing salmon and foul hooked one, I would bring the fish in and unhook it, even if an MNR is there. from my reading of the regs, you just can not keep a foul hook fish, nothing about not being able to bring the fish in and let it go.

Hook and gear cost money. and I want to get that gear back.I have foul hooked bass, pike ect.... and let them go. I see no differanse in salmon. Just I know some people TRY to foul hook fish. And as most of the forum agree, thats Very bad.

and maybe, just maybe those "unvoluntary" help by the poachers will make them learn and understand more about fisheries and how they are not really helping in what they're doing...

we're still early thru the salmon run and I already spotted a salmon sporting a nice vibrax earing...such a show off.
