Family day or should that be " Fishing Day " instead .
Sunday night was frigid , I mean really really cold at minus 17 , the morning wasn't much better at minus 8 . We drove off down the ice covered back roads , across the tracks and down to the river . A quick look at the river showed masses of slush flowing down ... oh nuts ... this sucks . Got down to the bank and tossed in a line , carefully dropping the float inbetween slush flows . Started fishing at 10:30 am and by 12 noon I hit a 2 pounder , ten minutes later a 6 pounder and by 1 :00 pm there was no more slush . The temp was above zero in the sun and the slush melted away. We changed locations and between 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm the fishing was hot , red hot . Included in the afternoon were 4 hens over 10 pounds , 1 solitary male and 1 drop back hen . All caught on roe using just about every colour , peach , white , chartreuse , pink ... they didn't seem to care .
