more heavy muskie lures

Made some wooden lures over the summer, ended up buying some thick epoxy (Nu Lustre 55, better than Devcon epoxy) to thoroughly coat some of my wooden lures that I've built over the last 2 years. Ended up making them look like brand spanking new, still have to do a few 2nd coats. In the picture below I threw in a "Top Raider"for size comparison, the bottom 3 lures I made fairly recently, the black buzzbait is a 5. oz "Mega Rat" that I've been having fun with lately. The 2 lip-less muskie lures below it, are for trolling (I can cast with them too), both are around 6+ ounces each (probably more w/ hooks). The bottom lure actually works better than than the one above it (similar in design) but would sometimes it would flip upside down in testing, still got to fish'em more.

i would be interested to know if you have tried putting joints into the banana or making it longer?



that bait looks pretty good.

Thnx for the comment ! Do you mean banana shaped jointed-baits like the "kwikfish" ? If that's what you're talking about, no I haven't yet, but I might try making one in future.

sorry for the confusion, i was talking about the yellow lure that you made. im curious to know the length and weight, and the hardware you used. if you are able to make a larger one, with 2 to 3 joints, let me know!

Oh my mistake lol. It weighed around 3.5 ounces, 8" inches in length, although I don't make them commercially for people, I'll be sure to pm you if I have a chance to take on another project like that. If you're thinking of attempting to make a jointed-lure, take a look at tackleunderground.com, there might be some useful info there if you're going to take a stab at it T-Dot. On that particular lure, I used spray-on vinyl (pale yellow), although if possible I would have airbrushed it.

Hey Jon, there's a product out there called E-tex lite or Enviro-tex. It's been suggested to me buy a lot of other plug builders and man, it leaves a beautiful, rock hard finish on lures. After mixing it its a lot smoother then any two-part epoxy. It'll flows right on to any of your lure and after about 72 hours it's freaking solid. You should look into it. If you can't find it up there get back to me and l'll send ya some.

Nice lures!!
I use envirotec-lite on miniature scenery i build for wargames...it is very, very durable. Try looking in any art stores for it. Expect to pay about $1 an ounce.(most kits are 16 or 32 ounce, though i buy it by the gallon up here in Barrie ontario)
