So I was about to go pike fishing at a local lake...but then I thought...I miss my centerpin and fishing gear.

I decided to head up to my favorite place up east for one last try at some left over steelheads....not expecting to hit anything.

Upon getting there, I was fishing with a float setup, worm and number 12 hook. Caught some tiny 6inch rainbows, beautiful fish...but not worth my time. I moved up as far as I could (huge 10ft dam at the end of the creek) And only saw a FEW rainbows left.

Continued to fish for another hour just messing around with the young baby trout, until I started working my way back down south to my car, hitting pools that USED to hold fish.

Anyways, I had put on a spoon that I had, but never really used and...well lets just say it WORKED!

First pool I chucked it in I saw the spoon and a large flash of white belly going up towards it...I felt a huge hit and BAM! A nice male

After releasing him safe and sound, I worked my way further south to my car and fished just under a bridge in the shadows....BANG! Another hit and this one took a lot of line downstream as he was more fresh (see pics).

All in all I landed 2/2 and had a great time because NO ONE WAS THERE, weather was nice and I just learned about another hot spoon for next season at that place :)

Enjoy the pics ladies

Nice haul there you piced up the pin fast and slated them this year just think what will happen next year with the knowledge you learned. Way to go bud. :)

congrats on the catches!

I will have to try spoons in a river setting. I have used roe, yarn and a couple other tricks that seem to work but never a spoon.

@TRINIBOY Thanks man, its all because of you :) Good teacher haha

iJay the spoons work wonders in pools, certain colors/designs do the trick. Eggs patterns ;)

Some one is gonna have to teach me this spoon technique. I can't even picture it. All I can see is snagging rocks and braches. Pools or not. Then I am also thinking I have NEVER seen anyone at the east tribs I am out at with Spoons. I have seen my uncle use em once a W creek.

I think your right Buck, I was never sure if that was a baby bow or not...never looked like it to me, I just assumed.

This is the same fish but I got this last year, what kind of species is this?

The first fish is a Brown identified by its higher black dots and lower red dots.

The second fish is a Brook/Speckled Trout... Identified by the white dots as opposed to the black ones that both Rainbows and Browns possess also the white underbelly is very uncommon to Browns as they most of the time have a golden underbelly and lastly the white stripes on its bottom fins are exclusive to Brook Trout and Splake.

Hope this helped.

Real smart kid we got here, guys. Let's encourage him to stay around!!

thanks guys!

The specks and brown all look the same to me, especially when they are young like this. I can only tell the diff when they are bigger.
