Loop to loop is easy and faster. So shot line then swivel then leader. And shot pattern depends on current and depth.

float swivel - shotline - swivel - leader that's how i do it. sometimes your leader hold better so the breaking point would be on the shotline. If you're worried about line twist...you can put your float on your shotline. with a swivel above it.

Yes. Always use a micro swivel to connect your leader to shot line. When you get snagged you loose your leader not your entire shot line with float. And always use a leader line 2lb less then your main so it always breaks at the swivel.

Let me help.
I literally run the easiest set up with high vis line and bank as many or more (not bragging just strengthening my point) than others around. I rock a 10lb main raven hi yellow. on this line, I have my float, and approx 70% of my shot. I then tie a micro swivel (f......... I need to go buy more actually I just remember this now) and then tie a 3 ft piece of fluro. I carry drennan only, 5 and 6 lbs. I was rocking 5lb all Sep for the chin dogs. It is super strong. I DO put shot on my leader line. In hundreds of fish over the years I have never, EVER snapped a leader at a shot pinch. Ever.

FG whatever your setup is when you were using your spinning reel. It's pretty much the same. I've seen your pictures of nice steels. follow the same setup but with a pin and different main line. the rest should still be the same.

X2. It's going to take some time getting use to casting and more important how much pressure you can used whilst fighting a fish. However once you get used to it there no turning back.FisherGirl said:
Have fun with the pin! I remember I got my first pin just over a year ago and fished it both summer and winter (ice fishing lakers + pin = awesome sauce). Just use it for everything, bottom bouncing, casting spinners and cranks, multi-species (carp + pin = awesome sauce as well). Use it all the time, and you will learn how to cast in several ways and how to handle and fight fish.
As for hi-vis line, I found that I only used it the first fall, after I got used to using it, I ditched it for some regular mono. Like everyone says, Raven is decent line, cheap and handles nicely. I first thought it was 'cheap' line because of the price, but I still line up with it every once and a while. Hi-Vis line ain't needed once you grasp the ebb and flow of pinning. So if you eventually use regular line for your main line then you won't need a shot line. That's too much line to be carrying around in the wader pockets anyways lol.
I don't use special leader line either, just straight up mono. Don't have issues getting hook ups, as long as the roe is deliciously juicy! I guess some spots the fish are a lot more spooky and people will downsize to 4lb and under. But if the fishing is that tough, I'd change spots, change rivers, or pack it in anyways. I once did get the special flouro leader but didn't find any difference in hookup %
