Go with the kit. Tons of fun and gets you through the winter! :mrgreen:nicely done! im debating getting a tying kit, or a new SA fly reel, since they're about the same price
Bass pro. They have bass and trout starter fly tying kits. I have the bass. They don't seem to have it on their website, but the kit is great. It gives you everything you need, including the tools, materials, and the vice.where do i get a half decent starter kit? i want to try this..
Buddy I have the hands of an ape and the temper of a wolverine. And even I manage. It's not as hard as you would think. Giver a tryI dont know how you guys have the finess to tie these. good on ya. I tie buck tail 1/4oz jigs for bass and eyes in the summer but that is about all I have in me

It's supposed to be a wooly bugger.CJ...nice meth brother...Cat...good effort, you'll get there brother...
Thanks for the advice.Great job on the flies, and keep at it guys, it does get easier. don't skimp on materials it can make a huge difference for some things.
For those looking to get into it more:
I went to bass pro last night to buy some stuff cause i was in the mall already and i have to tell you i think the selection is not the best. I will say that it really depends what you are tying. for bass you will be fine, and likely for steel as well. If you want to get into anything that requires good quality hackles like small dries, then i think you should head to a smaller family place to pick up your materials.
i have spent a lot of money on materials over the years. i suggest you go slow, and really know what you are going to fish for and focus on that for materials.
A simple kit from bass pro may be perfect to start for some wooly buggers etc. if you get into anything more advanced or smaller hooks then you will likely need to get a good vice. Ranzetti is the brand most people used in the not to distant past when i tied most of my flies, and i'm sure its still a top brand.
feel free to pm me if you have any questions.
