so went with my friends to georgian bay again for some bbq and swim, was an awesome day to be out of the city. this time i took my fins and snorkel, was awesome to look around in the area since we were going to wet a line for 1-2 hours before we leave. Saw a monster bass during the day just siting between the rocks was aroud 7-8 lbs, it was the biggest one a saw ever. So around 7pm grabbed my rod and started casting spinnerbaits, top water, mepps .... nothing. So then decided to put a worm on a drop shot since there was a strong current and after 10 min i was already bored geting sunfish. So i go to my bag and put a 2.5" gulp minnow, was getting nibbles non stop, and pulled few small bass.... then as i am reeling in and feeling some nibbles as usual i get a snag, but all of a sudden it starts moving, i go cool i got the big bass i was looking while snorkeling. After 10min fight i think wow the bass really give good fight, to my suprise big fish surfaces and me and my buddy realize ...thats no bass. So after about 15-20min fight we land this monster, it was awesome the shore was not steep. I know some might think its a long time to fight the fish, but all i was using was 8lb fluoro leader for dropshot on 15lb braid as main line. Anyway took another 5min to revive the fish and off it went in to the deep. Was the best half hour in my fishing experience. That is my 44" pb mysky. Enjoy....

Efka!!! that is an incredible musky...beautiful beast...i am very happy for you...it sounds like it was a fishing experience of a lifetime...the passion and amount of effort you put into fishing you surely are deserving of this musky...
enlarge and frame the picture...truly awesome that you released her afterwards...you should be very proud of yourself....

LMAO>.and you thought THAT beast was a largemouth??
Congrats on the pb,,,nice ski for sure....might make me change my mind swimming in that area again..lol

Great Fish!

That was was my initial thought! 8 lb leader and a 30 minute fight, seems like it would of broke off or been a lot longer. Hope that beast makes it.

Great catch, congrats on PB.

Dirk

thanks everyone. Dirk i was suprised 8lb fluoro didn't break too, i was just keeping the tension all time and was lucky it didn't make long runs, but it was heavy as a log. i was lucky it swam into open water, cause there were alot of sharp rocks where i hooked it. don't know exact time for fighting the fish, i was too exited to think straight, it was kind of a guessing game with my friends on the way home.

awesome fish to sum up your trip!
When you were snorkeling for the fish, do they swim away as soon as they see you or do they continue doing what they were doing?

Nicee fish man !! Ahh the trusted gulp baits, they work so well on anything! killer :( Especially the newer smaller baits, have had some luck using the 2" Gulp Alive Fish Fry (pearl white) for big pond bass, they go nuts for it lol. Did you try any of your larger spinners there efka ? not sure if you meant regular spinnerbaits in your report, wonder if you would've gotten some nice hits on them too !

ec1 they are not scared at all, you can almost touch them, bigger bass seem to keep ~4ft distance unless you swim up from behind and grab the tail, however they are slipery and are hard to catch

snypa fishing wasn't the main thing in the plans and i had limited amount of baits, mostly soft plastics and jigs. yes tried white spinnerbait but didn't get any hits, and didn't have my rapalas and spinners there.

Usually a ski that large shows signs of stress from a long or hard fight. The fins turn a blood red when in dispear. As far as the pics go, it looks pretty good to me. Id say Efka did a great job and Ill bet she is still swimmin in there somewhere!
WELL DONE!

well like i said i took time to revive it to make sure it was fine and didn't just push it in the water, when it started moving its tail i was still holding it for few seconds and then released it and saw it swiming and looking for deeper water, cause the spot i landed it was about 4ft deep and was kind of like little bay. it made a couple of turns and was gone.
