so far from my personal gear, a shimano clarus 13' rod and a rapala classic drifter worked wonders for me the last fall, i started pinning last august and got insane after the first salmon on my float rod and reel 1.5 hours after purchasing it, for me the cost was reasonable and good value for the product i got, i had 10-15 salmon days and the rod and reel held up to the challenge considering i was a newbie, so that is what i can tell you about my starter setup! hope this helps, tightlines!!!!

Currently im using a rapala classic drifter centerpin with raven IM8 14' Rod....works like a dream

total cost would run you $280 for the rod and only $170 for the reel. Reel is a beast
i use the same reel too! but i had a less expensive rod but i really love the 4piece set, just easier to transport, my brother has the same setup as you do,

If you're going more on the warranty and service...Fenwick has great service as well.

interesting, that is good to know. I dont mind paying $65 to replace an entire rod that costs $280. The rod was a gift from my gf, do I NEED the receipt ?

Not that mine is broken, but just in case :p

It's a life time warranty .. As long as you can prove its a raven a receipt shouldn't mater !!

Awesome! Makes me feel better not having to be "extra" careful while bush whacking...haha
