So I am very inexperienced, but I want to head to the "west tribs" as I have been told to call it, in Mississauga. I am really interested in catching trout but I know there are tons of different kinds of fish there. Is it good at this time of year?

Also I just bought a bunch of new gear including some topwater lures which I have never used before, some good old spinning lures, and some bobber/bait equipment. Will I have any luck using topwaters or spinners at this location (river)? Any general advice would be really appreciated, my dad is coming home from a trip tomorrow night and I would love to be able to bring something home and have a cookout with him.

Thank you!

Spinners will work, but no on the topwaters. I'd wait a while for trout as the river is full of salmon now.

If the rivers full of salmon, try catching salmon. Use roe bags under a bobber just like worms and drift the slow pools

if you never fished before, go on the bike ride on the weekend to explore different spots, you will also learn a lot from different fishermen just watching them fish.
west tribs can be harsh environment for new anglers

Thanks for the heads up on salmon. I have fished before, just not in a few years. Will lures work on salmon? I have a few Mepps Black Fury lures I have been wanting to try out. If not that, what kinds of artificial bait will work? I dont have any roe unfortunately.
