I'll have to keep that in mind if and when I land a steelhead lol!
 
I might be wrong and in no means claim to be an expert but I have found that by using a net it allows the fish a sense of security. When fish have sight of freedom they tend to struggle more for to be free, however when they are confined without sight of freedom they tend to struggle less. This is not to say that there won't be slime rubbed off in the process but I personally believe its the lesser of two evils.
