Hi there,

My name is Mike and I am new to the site but not entirely new to the sport.

I used to do a lot more fishing when I was younger. Most of my fishing now is only done anytime I get up to a friends cottage or getaway up North. I do some fishing down in the states too when I go down in New Jersey and Florida. Going down to Jersey in July and am going to go out to do some saltwater fishing with my cousin on his buddy's boat for some Fluke and Striped Seabass.

Looking to get out there more and take advantage of the angling opportunities that the GTA has to offer.

Cheers,
Mike

Welcome to the forum. Lucky you to go fishing in Florida! Are you going for Tarpon while you're there? Good luck and don't forget to post any picks.

Grubman - Unfortunately, I don't do a ton of fishing when I'm down in Florida. Just small ponds but you've gotta be careful of the gators so it can be a challenge. haha. Haven't gone into the saltwater down there, though I do enjoy walking out to the pier and watching guys fish off of there.

Hammercarp - I've heard that carp fishing is pretty fun. I've heard they put up a good fight. My girlfriend lives in Unionville and I've heard that Toogood Pond has some carp so I've been thinking about heading over there. Also, Grenadier pond in High Park.

I just booked a fishing lodge up on the French River for 3 days in late August. I'm really looking forward to that!

Hi mikea07 I have a snowbird friend that winters in the Tampa Bay, Florida area he returns every summer to his camp in Armstrong Station,Ontraio where he keeps his Piper Cub on floats at the ready for fly in fishing.
Most people in the Thunder Bay area refer to their cottage as a camp while people to the west in the Kenora (Lake of the Woods) area often refer to their cottage as a cabin it's kind of regional
thing...Cheers! :)

Right on. My family's place in Florida is down in Naples, way down in the south west. I think next time I go down I'd like to get out on a fishing charter in the Gulf of Mexico. I've been scoping out a few that look really promising and that produce a ton of fish in even just a 4 hour trip. it would be pretty sweet to hook into a huge Grouper or a nice Barracuda. Maybe even a hammerhead :p

For now, I just can't wait until August when I go up to the French River.

Welcome aboard Mike, you'll find much here by way of friendly conversation (mostly

Thanks CC. Nice to be welcomed by a moderator.

I'm liking the site a lot so far. Great to see photos from everyone's outings and I'm learning a lot as well.

I can't wait to get out on the French River and put all of this knowledge into practice.

Only 18 days away from my trip now. My tackle box is fully stocked and I'm excited as can be. I'll definitely be posting some pictures and reports when I return.
