Im new here and I thought I'd introduce myself. Im a member of another big board but have gotten tired of all the junk that is posted and arguments that get started. Im a big fan of just sharing reports, pictures and more recently videos so im looking forward to having an independent Steelhead and Salmon section. Thought I would share my latest video I put together. I have passed on the salmon run the last few years because of the terrible state of my favourite creeks and the angling practices that it brings out in people but im glad I made an effort this year. Early mornings were the key for me to enjoy some relaxing fishing by myself or with a few other friendly anglers. Enjoy the video and remember to watch in HD.

You're not alone fishing baticast setups on the tribs. I bust floats with a light TOF 9'6 with a AG C3 4600 round levelwind, or a 8'6 medium with a 5600 C3 for the bigger stuff.

But you're right, not many people with the casting gear. It's a very versatile setup once a guy learns it.

Ya, it's a fun alternative to a centerpin and it sure does turn heads. I have had tons of others on the river stop and ask me about it. As for versatility, I fish an 11 foot medium Rapala R-Type so it is pretty much just a float rod for me. Im usually carrying a hardware rod aswell though, I think thats a must have, especially this time of year.

It is a practical setup when you think about it. Cast-control dialed off, free spool drift a float. Move on to a clear spot, dial up the cast control a bit and cast up and across stream. Find some bigger water and chuck some hardware, or free-spool a bottom bounce. Love it.

But I would agree with ya, Bass0416, sometimes it is a lot more convenient to bring along some extra utility.

I used this setup at the saugeen meet last year and loved it on the bigger flows. Meaning to try the Niagara with it this year. Not sure how it would handle the slower runs though might not be ideal but then again I guess you can always hook up a spinner and have a go at hardware.

Yeah pretty sure I've run into you once or twice on an east trib and wondered how you float fish with it lol. It's sick, I wish I could do the same but my baitcasters dont see much action. I can never get a decent cast with them, but maybe im using too heavy a line and too heavy a rod

Stop by next time and give it a few casts. I run a tenpound mainline and its a fairly light rod so it casts with very little effort.
