Good lord what a night on Chippawa Creek. Jigging a twister in 14 feet of water I felt the jig hit something, so I thought, and set the hook. Well, I thought I had snagged a carp and for 20 minutes I really pushed my equipment and 6 lb line to the limit thinking the jig would pull out of the carp. Up to the surface it came eventually and man o man! Pitch black!!! A massive channel catfish, a large ancient beast with a skull the size of a soccer ball. "She" was over 35 inches long and I have no clue what she weighed but lordy lordy what a sympathetic creature, tiny eyes way down by the mouth, gargantuan skull and massive fins, whiskers and pitch black oily skin. I haven't had my socks knocked off while fishing in quite some time and this beast sent the socks a flyin! I swear it was an alien... it grunted a few "words" and back into the drink she went. Long life my friend! Thank you!

FYI the rod in the photo is not the rod I caught "Ol' Chippy" on. That is a heavier rod. Heck, I wish I had my light rod in there, she would have looked even bigger! lol

What a catch!!! Great that you released this monster to make more. On 6 lb line, that takes skill and patience. Congrats.

Beautiful Kitty! ... Well done.

When they go deep and hard, nothing quite like a BIG CAT.
Super power houses!

Hope you get many more.

(It's been a long time since I had some pussy like that ... lol)

That looks like a southern US fish,I didn't know, till now, that we grew them that big. Congratulations!

Thank you kind and gentle fellow anglers for your nice comments!!! Made my week! I am back on the water tonight.....

No southern US fish. We got 'em here.
I've found a few that size around Hamilton Harbor and Jordan Harbor, and I hear Dunnville but I haven't made it there yet.
Channel Cats are a great fish to catch. They fight like h***. My friend got one last year at Jordan, about 12 or 15 lbs. We had no net so I was soaked from head to toe by the time I hauled it into our small row-boat.

Alfie.

Thanks guys! Just love em eh, they chase down a spinner and plug with such aggression. I have had a few under 5 lbs this week. They look like quite a different species when compared to "Ol Chippy" in the photo. My only regret is that I do not know her weight.

What a pig! I caught one last week that was 30 inches and weighed 17.2 lbs. If yours was 35 inches I would say an easy 20+lbs maybe even 25lbs! Nice beast there!

nice cat, that's a beast and that must have been a great battle.when you landed it you must have been blown away buy it's size.congrats.
