Hey guys.

I just got word that Pebbly beach in the glen is now posted as trespassing.

Anyone have any news on this?

If so, it is a sad sad day.

I don't see how they could enforce something like that, its a public trail.

I got the HEADS UP out to the Boys and Gals down in Niagara.

Should have an Answer by this evening.

Will update asap.

Unreal the possible amount of RESTRICTIONS and ACCESS that is going on EVERYWHERE!

Makes me sick to my stomach.

Down in Niagara they were just going through access at Martindale Pond. (Rower's Club)

Apparentely, that has been resolved.

Unfortunately, the SNOW BALL EFFECT seems to be gaining ground.
Best to VOICE our CONCERNS in a civil way ... and try to STOP this HAPPENING.

Cant imagine someday fishing from my puddle in the front lawn.

Course, there would be a CITY ORDINANCE on that too!

Update:

So I went down to Pebbly last night / this morning, there is No Trespassing signs on the side of the hill facing upwards after you get down to the bottom of the trail.

To me, it looks like its only blocking off walking on the hill up towards the road.

If I wasn't looking for the sign, I would have missed it, so it can't possibly be for the beach.

Saw lots of salmon jumping, hooked a few, but then soon as light came out destroyed smallies on my trout minnows.. lol.

ill talk to OPG tomorrow at work, currently doingthe drilling and blasting on the road that is fenced off leading down into theGlen. It could be a temporary shut down due to the drilling and such just abovepebbly. Its such a tease to stare at the river all day, watching the americansfish and i am stuck working lol. on the plus side, i got a first hand view ofthe water clarity as to not waste a hike down there LOL.

I have a feeling those signs will be coming down

You can PM me, if you don't want to mess up the thread.

Pacific Drilling and Blasting, they are out ofVancouver BC. i talked to one guy at OPG today, and he said it could because ofdangerous rock fall hazards. there have been quite a few very large rock fallsdown in the glen this year, hence the fence we are currently drilling for alongthe OPG access road to Beck 1 and 2. section 1 above the "pebbly" isa 500 kilajoule fence, and the other sections part 2 and 3 are 1000 kilajoulerated. also security told me there have been quite a few people who get "lost"or "too lazy" to walk back to the metal stair case and just walk upthe access road. but the access road is blocked by a fence and barb wire andsecurity is forced to call Parks Police. so the signs are a there for a fewreasons, trespassers to OPG and to protect the general public from rock fallhazards.

The opg seems to be taking over every natural areawe have. No fishing signs at Gibson, fencing all around decew road water, sameat the break wall. This is ridiculous.

I think people probably stay down there until youcant see your hand in front of your face...then like you say, have no idea howto even find the stairs and start the trek upward. Either that or they are toointoxicated...lol. I would think...and I have never been down there other thanto the pool, that a good flashlight of some sort would be a must. Knowing thearea where it is from the steel stairs it could be very dark without one

UPDATE: THE ANSWER

Alright, so this is OFFICIAL:

OPG, with approval from the NPC has installed 'No Trespassing' signs near Pebbly Beach, however they are there to prevent people from walking up the very steep/dangerous banks onto OPG property. Since the trail basically ends at Pebbly beach, many people don't realize that they have to return by the same trail. Instead, they decide to continue up the banks on 'unmarked' trails. As a result, there have been dozens of incidents in which the police were involved. The signs are located on the left side of the trail (if walking towards the water) which are not blocking access to pebbly beach but will hopefully keep people on the sanctioned trail. As far as we know, these are the only signs that have been installed down there. We are also in the process of having signs made which tell people that the trail is a 'dead end' and they must return the same way.

So to sum it up...there is still 100% access to Pebbly Beach for fishing, hiking, whatever. Just make sure you go back the way you came.

Thanks Blair for taking the time to post this!

No worries....

A couple more weeks and then I'm down in Niagara.

Nothing quite like the Whirlpool and Glen.......

I always seem to "wait" until at least OCT 1 before I start taking the Beautiful Drive down the QEW (1 1/12).
Great Fishing, and a real nice bunch down there in NIAGARA and PORT D!

I walked down there the day after I posted this and saw for myself the signs were on the hill, and not on the path.

See my post above :)

What type of fishing works best, float, spoons? I've always wanted to try Niagara, but never really knew how to get access to the pool.

Both.

Plus: White marabou Jigs, spinners ... Roe, Pinky Worms...

What ever set up is your personal preference. Many will CentrePin and Float fish the Pool nowadays.

However you will ALWAYS see others - using different set ups.

Lots of BOTTOM BOUNCING in the GLEN (River)

The depth and moving currents are the Main Issue to deal with.

Plus the whirlpool is the SNAG CAPITOL of the World! (bottom is all boulders and rocks)

Directions:

Go down the QEW to NIAGARA

TURN on the 405 to Queenston Bridge

Take the LAST EXIT before Customs (STANLEY RD)

HEAD Down it towards the FALLS (Right) about 1 mile until your at the RAILROAD TRACKS.

This is the junction of WHIRLPOOL RD. Take it. (You can only go LEFT down it)

It ends at a T - Junction.

River Rd is to the Right (Towards Uptown and the Falls)

Niagara Parkway is to the Left (Golf Course is right there)

GO LEFT on NIAGARA PARKWAY about 100 yds.

On the RIGHT is the SMALL PARKING LOT.

Along the TREE LINE to the RIGHT of the PARKING LOT... is the TRAIL DOWN to the POOL.

It has a WOODEN STAIRWAY and is MARKED with a SIGN.

If you are planning on hitting the GLEN, you can either walk all the way AROUND the POOL or you can go DOWN about another 1/2 mile from the small parking lot (Along the NIAGARA PARKWAY) and when you hit the LOOK OUT POINT (THOMPSON POINT) is the STEEL STAIRWAY. It is on the LEFT of the POINT and takes you down to a trail that goes down to the RIVER (Glen)

QUEENSTON Is down even further..

Hope this Helps.
