Hey all,

Went out on Scugog for walleye for the first time in a few years, headed out yesterday afternoon, got to the launch approx 3pm. Just before we launched off the tip of the island... a CO came by in his truck, asked us how we were doing and kept driving, didn't even check our license... :D

got to use my new boat.. 14 ft aluminum . 9.9 hp..the winds were about 20 kms from the west, but we figured we'd be OK. took off towards Washburn island...had the spot marked on GPS from Ice fishing last year so we had an idea of where we were headed.

Started trolling in about 8-10 ft of water.. used a drift sock to slow us down when we had the wind at our back, and took it out going against the wind.. everything was going OK, but no fish..had a shad rap on one rod, and a worm harness on the other, kept trolling... nothing. my buddy finally missed one. we put out the marker, circled around and made another pass..... I hooked into this.

snapped a few pics real quick and put her back.. it was a crazy fight,,I don't usually like grabbing them by the gill plate, but I couldn't tail it and the wind was pushing us everywhere...so I had to ... it was sweet though.

we fished for about another hour and called it quits cause the wind was getting bad.

Went out again this morning about 4 am.. fished with worms, spinners, crank baits, we pitched pretty much everything we could think of...fished till about 9:30 and other than a half dozen small perch. no walleye .

Came home, cleaned out the boat, and had a nap.. lol.

so other than that big muskie, not one walleye was anywhere to be found..and :D we fished hard...

my new boat worked great.. :D

thanks Chibi, that worked...

it was great to be out for sure. no fish for the frying pan... but that's OK... I can't complain..

Beautiful fish man, wow what a monster.
Hey I know it hurts to not catch what your planning on but a Muskie is better than getting skinked in my books anyday.
Great pic too, hope your next walleye adventure will go better for you,
Chris

Nice Musky. Was it the worm harness or the xrap that caught this beauty?

Cought him on the rap, (the worm harness got us a bunch of small perch but that was it.)
it was definitely a nice healthy fish though, not a scratch on it.. and it fought like crazy..

I spent a minute just holding in the water afterward too just to make sure it was OK. Then it took off like a bulllet.

made my day, that's for sure..

I was using my Shimano baitcasting outfit with 12 lb mono. It's good enough for early in the year when I troll for eyes... but I usually like to switch it up to 17lbs when the weeds come up and I start casting the bigger baits for pike....

Sweet !!, small cranks work very well for early season muskie !! I'm really jonesin for the opener.. I'll probably be hitting up the east side of the lake, and a few river spots a bit more east in the kawarthas when the time comes, I'll be sure to post a report.

Well If anyone knows any spots that might exist for muskie close to Burlington ON, even if its a bit of a drive let me know. I would love to get into some this year. I have a bunch of conservation areas up hear and I guess some have pike but no muskie. I am thinking im going to grab this little kayak at BPS soon, can u imagine hooking a muskie in one of those, lol what a ride that would be!

Ya i love that saying, and old guy told me that once when i was at a lake way up north, I was fishing off his dock and hooked into a muskie, with a very carp set up as i was fishing for bass, the musky rolled a couple times and pop when im line. He told me i just reached my 1000th cast. I asked him to explain and thats what he told me, some fisherman are blessed it either takes 1000th cast to get one, or on you 1000th cast one bites, lol.

Jeeez! Lookit him.. Beauty of a fish! How well does that 9.9 shove the boat around do ya find?

It actually goes great.. even when I fished Quinte for opener there was me and a buddy of mine and we were fully loaded... It's actually ridiculous how much stuff we had for 2 guys. I'm sure you guys know what I mean...

We still were able to rip around, no problem. I'm glad I bought it.
