Noobs "Camping" at Opener

Ontario Fishing Forums

Help Support Ontario Fishing Forums:

fishing at night can be very difficult especially for a beginner steelhead fisherman/girl that doesn;t know the river system, 1: inexperience can lead to a lot of hangups and can be frustrating since its illegal to fish with a light on. 2: its spring, you;re going to hook into a hot fish that takes off and you have to chase, chasing it in the dark can be very hazardous and can lead to an early end of your spring fishing.

camping at a spot is one thing, fishing it at midnight is another

Are you sure its illegal to fish with a light on?
From my understand (which could be wrong) its illegal to bait fish in with the use of a light.

Very good points tho, midnight fishing is for someone with nigh vision goggles.

you can't use a light to attract fish. You can have a headlight and turn it on to re tie or land a fish tho

this^^^ in other words you can't have the light on when watching the float or line

it depends on how the CO determines the rule, there could be possible baitfish in the pool, which ARE attracted to the light, which would then attract larger fish, and given the reputation of one particular CO in the eastern areas, I wouldn;t put that past him

Yeah to the 3 or 5 CO's that patrol all of Zone 16.

I fish with a light at night time a headlamp and a lantern on the shore so I can see my gear and where I step without taking a faceplant.

i love fishing at night, always do it, especially in the fall, no people, fish are not spooky and you've got pretty much the whole system to yourself!
I agree, nothing better then being out on the water around 3:00 am, moon light shining down on you nice and calm and no one else anywhere , and seeing the sun rise out on the water is awesome. And man at night the fishing is great.

I as well love to fish at night haven't done it for a long time. The rig I use most was a Thill Night Bobber and a worm that's been fed food that makes em glow in the dark deadly rig for night time fishing.

Don't shine a massive light into the water, but a basic headlamp is fine, as is a light on shore / on the bank as long as it's not beaming directly into the water.

Night fishing from what I have seen, the best set up is a small light on shore to reference, as you place it down. walk out slowly into the river. When you are walking back to shore the light is ur reference point.

As for us, we will be there Friday in the late afternoon setting up our trailer, sun goes down is when the drinks come out! We will be out east with a medium size group (10-15 people). Fishing will start around 5-5:30 at the first sign of light. We are there till Monday

Definitely cannot wait!

My wife is 22 weeks prego and she is demanding to not miss out on the fun, she is coming out waders and all!
If this year is anything like last year, tons of fun will be had!

From waking up and gargling with Johnny walker black for the lack of toothbrushes, to retriving lost floats from 20' or higher in trees. Last year was a hoot for sure!
