Same.....smashed up fish in the park on them too where using minnows is prohibited. Threaded onto a hook the right way they look just like a minnow.

IF you ever go out to ALBERTA /BC (at the time was in Calgary)
And head past Banff towards Radium BC ....

You will come to DOLLY VARDEN.

Beautiful little mountain river.

THE BULL TROUT just go balistic over BACON (The white sinewy part)

Just rig it like a worm (Never falls off the hook) and fish the deep pools by log jams.

BEST BAIT that i EVER USED! Period. (Out there - wouldnt use anything but)

Used to watch guys with $1000 float and fly setups not even come close to what me and my brother would land in a day.

100% catch and release (Barbless hooks) on all those wonderful WILD BULL TROUTS! (Big ones would be in the 10lb range)

They have "Funny" hooked jaws (Like males spawners .... but all the time)

Have you ever tried the bacon on Steelhead?

Shrimp is a popular catfish bait, ive never heard of it being used for steelhead though.

CC you use mysis shrimp?? they seem too small to use for anything bigger than panfish but I guess single roe eggs are pretty darn small too, what do you mean by tied mysis?

I tied up some mysis imitations for the fly...natural food for steelhead in the lake. Examples below tied by others (I don't have any pics of my recipe though)...
Don't tell anyone though!!

those look real nice, I never even thought about them being out in the lake. I know about them because I have fed them to acquarium fish in the past but I guess it makes sense that steelies would feed on them if they are abundant in the lake.

I was fishing the Catt a few years back when nothing was working--I had tied some Mysis a few days before (though I would give it a try)....

First cast to a pool I had been working for about 15 min.....WHAM!!! Hit it like a freight train.

Give 'em a try...

I used to tie a bead head scud pattern with tinsel and flashabou #16 sedge hook pink and chart....fooled many a rainbow with it.

Nymphing is deadly. Im thinking aboug getting back into fly fishing....its how i started into the trout and salmon game . Dropbacks on a 4wt looks like fun to me...

So can you actually buy these small shrimp? I don't have the eyes, hands, or patience for tying.

I got two fly rods when I first got into steelheading and before I had a chance to develop any skill or even land anything other than a small resident brown I discovered how much easier float fishing was and I havent touched the fly rod since. I will get back into the fly once I get a little better on the pin.

Anyone else ever tried shrimp?
I catch channel cats on shrimp all the time. I take frozen shrimp and a frozen sardine with me every time I go cat fishing.
I got a 20 lb carp near the mouth of Bronte 3 years ago while fishing chrome with a Mepps Black Fury spinner. The water was very murky and at first I thought I was pulling in a record Steelie. .

Alfie.

A can of freeze dried grasshoppers from the reptile food section in Petsmart absolutely kicked ass .
