Good evening gents,

What are the regulations for night fishing in Ontario? A link would be handy if possible.

More specifically Rock Lake, ON.

Planning a 24 hour fishing challenge for November.

Thanks!

I have been curious as to how night fishing works. I get the basics, bring a flash light. But what the heck can you see at night in the waters? I am talking about river fishing. I hear alot of guys river fish at night. I havent been brave enough to attempt it as of yet. I am afraid of rolling my ankle or falling in bushes or even in the water itself at night.

I have spent many years down south, I know alot of preditors hunt at night and that fear has been instilled in me.

If you cant night fish in the states, how do people, primarily professional bow hunter anglers, fish during the night?

ive night fished in the states not sure why it isnt allowed, isnt it the samething but with less light and loogans

1. I assume you're fishing the shore or river, you need to secure the area behind you 1st by setting trap lines using fishing lines
attach to electronic buzzer, cans, bottles or anything that you can hear from the area you're fishing at. 1st trap line will be 1ft.
from the ground. 2nd will be 2 ft. from the ground. Save your urine on a bottle, spread this around near the trap line, that will work
as predator repellant. Have someone with you around.

2. If you're on a boat, you need your life jacket on. Lights on your boat should be on, visible enough for other boaters.

Make your presentation as real as can be.

Thanks guys!

At this point I will be wearing the life jacket throughout and have a bright light on the boat.

Are there any other precautions I should take legal wise?

I don't want to forget to do something to do the boat and get busted for it at 3am on the lake. Wouldn't be fun.

Thanks again.

Don't drink, have a boating license and make you got all the stuff on board required. Whistle bail bucket etc.

Thanks for all your help guys!

Any other tips/do's/don'ts for night fishing? Safety related, angling lures, angling techniques?

My intent is to track down the pickerel in the lake. The lake also has bass and pike.

this is a great topic to discuss because i too haven't really come across anything regarding night fishing. i've only fished at night from shore in the caribbean and once in downtown kingston, on where i caught a 1.5 largemouth from some docks.

i've considered taking my small boat up the river at night. a river that isn't very wide and i have been on a couple dozen times already so i know it well. this thread has got me thinking about what's required. pretty informative post so far.

Don't mean to troll or post off topic but there is no such thing as a bow hunter angler. An angler fishes with hook and line. not a bow and arrow. The word angler is derived from the word angle meaning hook. Bow fishing is listed in the MNR reg. summary as a method of taking fish other than angling.
Anglers fish at night for lots of different species with a hook and line in the states. Different states have different regs.

Could you advise me please and the other Posters where that Information you Passed Out came from.

Fishing Reg of some sort?

Thank You.
Not legal in NY don't know about other states. Might be legal in redneck states.

After reading my post, I realize I mention about using braided line. I forgot to mention that Braided line works best on high temp not on low temp. Your casting distance will be shorter, line will absorb the water and will freeze a little bit make the casting distance shorter. For that use mono, 10 - 15 lbs. You can waterproof your braided line though.
