The World Fishing Network is currently conducting an online contest to find The Ultimate Fishing Town in Canada. Towns from all across Canada had the opportunity to nominate and vote for their town. The top 10 towns were chosen and final round voting is currently drawing to a close.
The race has really become down to two towns. Port Alberni, B.C. and Nestor Falls, Ontario. The current population of Nestor Falls is approximately 500 people, while Port Alberni has well in the tens of thousands. Despite that fact, Nestor Falls has garnered the regional support of the whole Northwestern part of the province to try to bring this title to Ontario. This title, the prize money attached as well as the exposure that having a 30 minute television show produced and aired on WFN, will bring much needed promotional opportunities to an area of my riding that has been vastly affected by the downturn in the U.S. economy as well as other factors affecting the tourism trade in Ontario.
There are three other Ontario towns also in the finals (Seely's Bay, Port Rowan & Thunder Bay), but it is Nestor Falls that has the realistic chance of garnering the title for the Province.
What is needed is a push by all towns & cities in Ontario to visit the website at http://www.wfn.tv/fishingtown and get voting for Nestor Falls. One vote per valid email address, every 12 hours from now until Thursday, September 30th at 4:59 p.m. ET (3:59 CT). Every vote will be crucial.
Lets all work together to bring this recognition to our Province, and especially the Northwest & Lake of the Woods regions.
