Opener

there's the perch festival in Orillia...and that's 1 week before opener...I will be swinging for bows after taking my kids to some speckle trout fishing (stocked) and will be revisiting some old hidden pools....

The spring season is a total gong show. Between the idiots wading through the redds, guys casting over your line, ignorant jerks almost standing on your feet to get into your spot when you hook something, the snaggers, and the fact most of the fish are sucked out from spawning, it's just not that appealing. If it's your thing then go nuts, have fun. Personally, I'm much happier lake fishing by then.

Hmmm
Almost sounds like a personal issue .
Trying to push you out?
You sound like a real pleasure to fish with.
Betting your trolling the lake by yourself also. Ha

Well I totally agree it isn't appealing if you've been steelheading since the first melt (Feb). been hooking up steels every weekend. Not getting too excited once north of train tracks opens...it just means more spots to fish. But I do enjoy when you see the whole family try to get on some fish...lots of cheering...

Not a personal issue at all, I just don't like standing shoulder to shoulder with 10 other guys with everyone casting over each other and lots of people acting stupid. Why that's a problem for you, I don't know. Nor do I care.

I hope we have rain for this years opener.

Last year was dry
Dry? I remember having a major rain fall just before opener last year (west tribs that is). The trib that I mostly fish had risen 2 feet and was blown out

How soon we forget.
Opener 1975 is how I was introduced to the addiction.
Had never seen so many fish , and people fishing in my life.
I was hooked. And am now one of the millions paying for my license and the privilege to do so.
Which in turn pays for stocking , mnr jobs and a huge impact on local jobs and economy.
Myself I encourage people to go to opener.
See what it's all about, meet alot of great people and just enjoy the outdoors.
All the more business created for sporting goods stores.
90% at opener only envy the few catching fish .
They've yet to learn the know how to be successful.
A few snagged lines. Having to retie more often. Who really cares.
THAT'S OPENER.
Don't post here on a fishing forum discouraging people to check it out.
Encourage all you can.

I would encourage people to get OFF the beaten path for opener. I have fished with the crowds, and it isn't pleasant... I personally don't find snagged lines and yelling matches fun at all. I opt for peace and solitude, and that's what I encourage.

I encourage people to try doing something different. Like fish for crappies. Or salmon. Or resident browns. Why do the same thing as everyone else?

I've been fishing steelhead for months now. Time to move on to something fresh and new.

I discourage no one - I even said, go have fun. Or did you skip over that part in your rush to lecture?

My Opener;

Fishing a charter on lake O for the morning out of Dalhousie with a bunch of buddies. Titty bar in the afternoon.

Couple days break.

Off to Erie on my boat some NY state smallies.

Enjoy all!!!

As long as their still in the system I’ll fish for them. After they get flushed out I target Walleye in the river. They can be a lot of fun and tasty.

So true, hoping to do that again this year. It doesn't always pan out but its worth it....in the old days it was much easier and I am only in my 30's what a difference 10-15 years makes in southern ontario,

One thing here is that...during openers...most of the seasonal anglers tend to go up to the spawning grounds...I always tip some friends that isn't the best areas. You have trout busy spawning...you have too many anglers...tension is usually high...everyone wants to catch fish...I stay south for late runs and dropbacks...

Excellent point Dill.
And with this late cold spring alot of spawners will be vulnerable.
Leave em alone people.
And release all ripe hens.

TI you can bark all you want but you know what’s going on out there. We experienced that last week, remember? Not one but two ripe hens. It is truly a s$&t show.

Yes sadly.
But even if I can change one persons outlook , it's one more hen dropping.
It's an entitled world mentality out there.
Just hoping not a permanent view.
Lots of ethical guys out there also.
