today morning i went to Bluffers Park to test drive my new boat.i changed the fuel.changed gear oil.every thing set.
fuel is also coming.outboard was tuned up last year before winter.
but when i try to start the engine it cranks but not starting.any know what could be the problem.let me know.thx thx

I also put brand new battery,
it is Johnson 28hp outboard.

The only other thing you haven't mentionned are the spark plugs.. did you make sure they were firing?

and if you can smell the gas.. maybe it was flooded..

that's what I would check,

A few things to try; if fuel is flowing, check the spark plugs , then check for spark by putting the plug against the engine block and when it cranks over, see if there is a spark. If you have a spark, then have the mechanic check the timing. Sometimes even if it is new fuel, the old fuel takes a while to run through the system. Good Luck.

My outboard started today.yesterday we didn't chocked.today my bro some how figure out and chocked and in first try outboard started.i am very happy today

One recommendation start looking for replacement spark plugs, spark is important for 2 strokes depending on which oil you use, low rpm(trolling) they will foul up quicker. I always have a spare set with me.

Another suggestion is get a measuring bottle($3.99 from cdn tire) to make sure you have the proper oil/gas mix.

Enjoy!

Yeah honestly. Its well worth the $4. Takes a lot of stress out of your day, believe me! Also use a good quality 2 stroke oil in it as well.

What I do to avoid problems in the spring is to do a proper winterizing in the fall. Check the plugs, change the lower unit oil, run the motor dry, remove gas from the reservoir, spray some oil in the combustion chambers, and your all set.
