The Ottawa River borders Ontario and Quebec and is over 1200km long. This report is based on fishing at dusk and at night at the mouth of the Petawawa river where it feeds into the Ottawa river from Algonquin Park. Locally, this is known as the Petawawa Point, as per the map below. We were standing specifically where the thumbtack is marked "smallies". After dark, we moved over where the Tumbtack indicates "Cat".
A view to the northeast bank.
The tempurature this fine day was 17'c, and just after a tunderstorm at 8:30pm. We decided to fish into the night using bottom fishing. Our rigs were a simple worm and a hook and 1/2 oz of weight one foot up. Toss into the water, tighten up the drag and feel. It can be done in the standing positio, or seated. Whichever you prefer. Myself I sit. This is my fishing buddy and old freind Josh,
Below is the first fish of the night, looking up the northeast bank. A nice 1lb bass.
After this catch, we moved to the east bank and set up. This is "Cat" On the map.
It wasn't long after darkness set in when we started catching.
Excuse the poor quality pics, cell phone cameras don't work so well in the dark.
First Cat of the night!
2nd cat of the night. This one stung Josh right in the crease of the thumb when we tried to release him.
Small rock Bass. Musta strayed out of his rock.
Only Sturgeon of the night 3 lbs, 25" long.
Another Cat. 2.3lb
1.5 lb kitty.
The biggest cat! 3.5 pounds.
This seems to be a great spot all around for fishing. It doesnt seem to matter much where it is you fish on the ottawa, there are fish. Come up and we'll go have some coffee, and fish!
