Hey Guys,

So I'm heading up to the lake this afternoon and will be there for the weekend. I understand the lake holds a good amount of largemouth and pike. Right now for my zone, pike is in season but bass is not. Now, while I'm new to fishing I fully expect that I won't be landing very many as I learn. None the less, are there certain techniques, or areas of the lake that I should be targeting in order to be more likely to land pike than bass?

Thanks!

John

Like blair said, its hard to completely avoid bass, but you can always switch to bigger baits and lures to lower your chances. I've gone up to 12" suicks and pike will still hit them as if they were undersized minnows.

Pike seem to hit baits bigger than their mouths, like an HJ-12 husky jerk, so like it has been said before, bigger baits = pike. I also haven't had much luck for bass on hardbaits, so avoid using plastics.

In addition to what was said above, to target pike and avoid bass, go old school... use the traditional pike spoons ---> Red Devils and Five of Diamonds.

pike are more likely to go after large minnows than bass
