Pike, Bass, Pickerel on a fly

I am heading up just north of Sudbury in late May 2018.

I have been up there the last few years, and this year thought we would take a different approach. Instead of spending all our time in a boat we thought that we'd do some bush whacking and hit some back lakes/rivers with our fly rods.

Talking to a few ppl they said that they don't get really anything running, however, go after the pike, bass.

I have never used a fly for pike/bass, whats the setup? Do I tie a steel leader to my backing?

I'm going to do some research, but if there is anything you guys want to add, much appreciated.

Steel leader to backing?? Keep doing some research... Your setup should be REEL->BACKING->FLY LINE->LEADER+BITE TIPPET(optional).

For fly lines, floating will probably work fine for most of the bass and pike needs, but I would bring another spool loaded up with either intermediate or a type 3 lines. Especially if you want some walleyes. Consider bringing sinking leaders as well if you are fishing rivers.

For flies, wooly buggers, bunny leeches, dahlburg divers, clousers, deceivers, poppers, should be more than enough.

Wire bite tippet is definitely a good idea if you're targeting pike.

What weight rod are you using?

Thanks for the info.

I am not sure on the weight of the rod, I'd have to look. It an older one, (found it in some of my grandfathers stuff and thought I'd give it a try).

I think I'll run into my fishing store and talk to the guys down there. Might have to pick up some new hardware A second spool is something I thought of.

Smallmouth are a lot of fun on a fly rod. Use poppers or deer hair mice, the topwater action is awesome.
