do you guys consider non motorized (ie-canoes, etc.) creek boat fishing as shore fishing or boat fishing?
For what purpose?
I would say you are in a boat. Due to the "navigable waterways rules" (which have been discussed at length in the past.) I would want to say boat fishing, if you were shore fishing then you could be considered to be trespassing in some places.
If you are referring to the boaters card now required, I am not sure if that applies to canoes. It is very easy to get on-line though, let me rephrase, very, very, very easy to get ;-)

i was thinking more for the purposes of this forum. i would imagine the "boat fishing" category tends to be filled with trolling, downrigging, fishfinders, etc., not just casting 20 or 30 feet from shore... so i thought i'd ask...

Got ya. You just put my brain in a whole nuther place with that question.
Sorry.
Most of my fishing would be shore fishing then. Can't say I've ever used a downrigger or fishfinder, and my trolling amounts to dangleing a lure from a canoe and paddling slowly.

i think i'm in the same boat, so to speak...

I do think that there is an important distinction between motorboating and using canoes/drifters/kayaks etc... but for the purpose of this forum, since there are many shore fishers, probably best to think of three categories.

I'm with Alfie on not using motors, depth finders, or downriggers. Nothing against them per se I guess I just find it more fun being an old school bank beater (smile if you get the double meaning...hint, nothing dirty lol).
