hey guys i just got back home from ice fishing on rice lake for 2 days & not a single bite i never thought rice lake could of got any worse than this, we were using live minnows shiners on jig heads & 1/4 spoon with treble hook, we fish from 4pm to 8pm. I know this lake has fish but its finding where they live & feed, the few fish i have caught at this lake in the last couple of years has been in many different locations but i am sure there are areas where fish tend to be around more frequent. I guess only the people with years of experience fishing this lake knows where those spots are. If an experience angler like Italo would hire & outfitter to help him find the fish then i guess me being with out both would explain the reason why fishing has been hard on me.

Thanks for the report...that's surprising as I've had a productive summer & fall fishing and that usually results to great ice fishing as well.

darn you got a nice setup there! bbq on the ice? i like your style! haha thats too bad about the fishin though, just dont give up! i tried a lake earlier this winter and the day was unbearably slow and i swore id never fish it again but i gave it a second chance and now its one of my go-to lakes! just keep exploring untill you find that honeyhole!

Oh what lake is that lol? The Atlantic?

thanks for the reply i spoke with a few people today they said some thing about the biometric pressure could of being too low & a cold front moving in & shuting down fish activity, i never though fresh water fishing could of been so complicated.

What part of the lake were you on? I don't see any huts around in your video which usually means no fish around. Go where all the huts are and you will catch fish. Man you sure are having a hard time on Rice. I will have to change that in the summer.

you are totally right Dirk that thought crossed my mind when i realize not even a perch was around their were some guys on snowmobiles fishing way future south of us but i think i have found the reason why their was only one time i caught alot of fish on rice & it was right after a storm which relates to biometric pressure changing making fish more active the next time i do go back to rice i will go right before a storm to prove this theroy right.

p.s we were close to loucks rd & upper foley island

I downloaded this app for my iphone cant wait to try it out.

Based on the topography I can see in the photos it doesn't surprise me that you didn't get any bites. It looks like you were fishing near a rather steep dropping shoreline. from experience, these areas usually don't hold a lot of perch in the winter. Try fishing near a large flat with structure near by in 20'-25'. If you can find a large amount of green weeds on or near a break line somewhere, the perch and walleye are usually on an adjacent flat near by. I'm not sure if you were using electronics or not but I highly suggest you do. If you don't mark fish with 30 minutes, I would leave and find a new spot.
Having said that your setup is awesome! Next time I'm out on Rice Lake and in need of a burger I'll come find you!!

hope this helps, goodluck!

we were using a fish finder & it was marking alot of fish but i began to question it's accuracry since nothing was biting, i need to learn about flats & structures so i can have a better understanding, if you meant 20 feet of water i have never seen it on rice the most 19ft in small areas. thanks for the info & i will be happy to take you up on the offer.
