Talk about full contact fishing, if there was ever such a thing this past weekend was definitely it.

Friday afternoon and evening was full of thunder and amazing light shows from the lightning along with heavy amounts of rain.

Went out later on Saturday morning for about an hour and half and caught 3 small bass in extremely difficult conditions. Was very windy with gusts up to 35 or 40 km/hr. Whitecaps were plentiful so I just caught some rays and had some beers. Hats off to the tournament anglers that fished in those wicked conditions.

On Sunday morning I had the pleasure of getting out with Lee from the board and thankfully the wind was much calmer, it was still gusting at times and the waves also picked up but nothing like it was on Saturday.

I tried to show Lee how to dropshot as he has never done it before and I must not have been a good teacher as he did not have a great deal of success. Got some good bites but did not manage to land any fish. Hopefully the experience and the knowledge he gained will help him in the future. The wind and waves did not help as it was much more difficult to see the weeds and the pockets. Even for me I was getting a lot more weeds then I normally do. I have no doubt that with a little practice in ideal conditions that he will be able to dropshot with lots of success.

As for our day, we were on the water for about 4 hours and we moved between 4 or 5 spots. I managed to catch 7 or 8 bass along with a couple of crappie that were all released. Again bait of choice was a Slammer fished on a dropshot rig. Fish were caught between 7-11 FOW.

Thanks to Lee for being a great camera man and net guy. Cheers.

thanks for posting and sharing diggyj, if the other bass were anywhere near the size of the one in the photo awesome stuff.I fish drop shot setup a good amount but since i'm fishing from the shore, i'm casting out and bottom bouncing it along with the current and waiting for the smack from a bass.

NICE FISH! :D :D :D

You know your Rice Lake patterns for sure. Waiting for the post that says, you won a tourney!

This is a great technique! I do it too, but I pitch it towards fallen trees in between the branches and if any bass is near, they'll bite, the hard part is pulling them out before they wrap around a tree.
