Have been thinking of going out to Rockwood Conservation or in the general area to try some fishing. Have heard that there is some good fishing to be done there. Anyone have any success stories or non success stories?
Or any general advice? Would like to hear them all before I head over.

Thanks

I've been hiking there... Water looks like it would definitely hold smallmouth bass as it's deep and rocky, but there were a lot of anglers there, and all I could see in the water were some rock bass, and a few pumkinseed.

lots of panfish for sure including rock bass as mentioned. carp too. i talked to a guy from sauga who says he goes there all the time for carp. when i was there i saw one.

i'm sure there are bass in there but maybe not enough to get excited about.

the place is gorgeous of course, and that's the main attraction. but for some proper fishing you'll probably need to go to guelph lake for the largies and pike. i've caught bass there myself and have seen people pull the odd bass and pike up from shore.

good news is that paid admission at one park gets you into the other or any other grand river CA park so if you have time, might wanna try both.

I was up there a week ago. Caught nothing but rock bass. they stock rainbow in there. Was one caught the day i was there.. bout a 1 and a halfer. Apparently the best fishing is right up at the damn. IT's beautiful up there. well worth the drive even if you don't catch any thing. Good luck if you go.

ps rhymobot... wow i didn't know that about the parks. get a day pass in one and your good for all of them that day?? THats awesome!!!... its like what 6 bucks

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to try my luck by the dam there then. Would be really cool to land my first Rainbow Trout. I'll be sure to bring a few spinners.
Not too much interest in pan fishing but I guess catching something is better than catching nothing. And if it's as beautiful as you all say, getting skunked wouldn't be such a bother either.
I didn't know that about the GRCA park admissions either. Thanks for the tip. Might hit Guelph Lake conservation in the evening if that's the case!

If you like smallies.. I'd hit up Belwood C.A, either in the lake or below the dam on the Grand, where you could get a brown as well.. On the grand it's single barbless though, and no organic bait. No restrictions on the lake itself.

Smallies are my favourite species to target. Plan on going to Belwood sooner than later when I get some time to invest. Single barbless is okay with me; I can still Texas rig my rubber baits fine :)

So I went to rockwood conservation on Sunday afternoon. Man, that place is packed and really lacks in space to shore fish. There were people canoeing left right and centre - just way too much commotion for me to get any decent fishing done. Only caught about 4 tiny rock bass and a few tiny smallmouths. It looks like the best game plan at rockwood conservation would be to rent a canoe and find a honey hole somewhere.

Gorgeous park though...
