Anyone ever use a rod case to protect tho expensive rod and reel?

I sure want to after the purchase of my new trout outfitt!!!

I was looking at cases at Lebaron and they only have one that 54" :( which is not enough for my 13-6" rod and when taken apart it's 60" each.

What do you find the pro and cons of rod cases and do you think it's wroth it money?

I'm still on the hunt for one! And I'm sure I want one to protect my toys :)

could always do a rod sock, i only use the tubes that came with my fly rods, sometimes find them to more pain than they are worth, since you have to disassemble the rod and remove the reel, which also means removing any flies you have tied on

ALN, is your 13' a two piece? If so, I have a home made case that would fit a two piece 13'. I've abused my set up so much that I have no use for it. If you want it, I'll give it to you. Its not the prettiest thing, but it does the job at protecting the gear. Let ke know.

No my 13'6 is a 3 piece. 56" a piece. Found one at Lebaron that's 54.5" in lenght :( just missing the extra few inches. And this case doesn't require me to take off my pin or spinner reel but it's just short 2 inch which is what's driving me crazyyyylol

Jmatt-
I have seen fly fishing rod cases that has a slot for the reel to be in so you don't have to take off the reel every time. It's like 30$ tho

Steelie- thanks for the offer :)

for your first comment, all i gotta is.....thats what SHE said hehe...sorry had to

my rods are 4 piece anyway, and the tubes are labeled with length and weight, plus they have padded interiors with separate sections for each rod piece

It would be nice to have a case that hold my rod with the pin on it all rigged up. Keep your eyes on kijiji, ive seen a few on there in the past.

Here is one from Kitchener Area, Im not sure if it is big enough to fit the pin. I didnt want it because it is a bit long for a 13' 3 piece, If anyone has a 13' 2 piece it would be perfect.

I just use rod ties from tackle shops. They are about 4$. Then i put my rods in the backseat of the car. I do have a rod case but i just use it for vacations. If you really want the rod case, consider a rod sock, kijiji, a tackle shop, or a box store.

Never used one or know anyone who does. Just keep it together with elastics or rod ties, and put your reel case on. As long as you're careful with it, you should be fine.

Those are the exact same rod ties as i have.

Check out this page - http://www.centerpinangling.com/parts_maintenance.html, specifically BUSHMASTER FLOAT ROD ROD & REEL TRANSPORT CASES. They are a bit pricey, but may come handy. In my case, I quite often get to my fishing spots by public transportation and find the one I bought very useful.

I do the same, thing. Works good as long as you respect your equipment.

It would be nice to be able to toss your rod in the trunk in a hard case and not have to worry about it though.

Lolll jmatt :p I knew someone would

I just want one so I can bush wack without scratching the rod up and would keep everything in good condition. Or when I travel I can just wear and and walk around with it and stuff

you definitely don't want to be walking all over the place with a rod case.

homemade is your best bet, my buddy made one for his 7'1 stcroix 1 piece and it works great, just get some PVC, a cap for one side, a screw on cap for the other and then add something to add some sort of cushion at each end to protect your rod tip. You can also easily make a handle for it. Like others said you dont wanna be walking though the bush with a rod case, its more for traveling. If you dont want to build one, sail has a great one with two inserts so it holds two rods. Im not sure of the size though.
