Hey guys, i might actually buy a decent fly rod rather than all my junk lol. I'm thinking lf buying a sage VXP in the 6 wt 9 ft and with the handle B. Has anyone used one or know somene who has? They look pretty nice and the reviews seem positive. Any other rods to recommend?

Here it is:

loop. 4,6,8,8 spey and a diamondback 4 weight for the small brooks--its like heroin my friend--I started with "rod" and now "rods"///

VXP re-itroduces what was one of the legacy rods the XP...I own the latter (great rod, few can touch them). A good purchase in my opinion...I fish Sage almost exclusively and the rods very rarely lose their value...(I can sell my XP for likely more than I paid for it).

Any other rod brands or rods that could challenge the VXP that is in the general price area?

like chase said sage is kinda the way to go I like sage there amazing rods but not cheap you look at some of there brand new lines blow pretty much anything other rod out of the water I use many different brands to have a little bit of everything all though sages new line of spey rods do look cool the ones that replace the tcx pretty cool bright red blanks although nothing will ever beat the Death Star right chase. But to get back on topic to what othe brands would be similar the answer is yea Scott, gloomis most rod company will have something close but it all falls to personal preference how

sage makes a great rod, i have used them, i don't own one though, i have a gloomis nrx.

best advice, don't go by the name, go by what feels comfortable in your hands, if you're going to spend the money, might as get something that feels right

One of my favourite small water rods is one I bought for my son a few years back...
4wt Orvis Clearwater...for $200+ can't go wrong...

NRX is for folks who have too much money to spend...LOL

I'm pretty new to fly fishing too and just picked up a Greys Grxi 9' 5wt after reading some good reviews from yellow stone angler. Casting it with a 6wt SA GPX line and am pretty impressed with how forgiving the rod is with my less than spectacular, novice casting skills. I've thrown streamers on sink tips and big bass bugs, all the way down to size 16 dries for trout and it has handled all scenarios well. For the price i paid ($150) i'm impressed. As for Sage, also just picked up a 7wt Z-Axis spey and it looks likes its gunna make a wicked float rod conversion LOL. Can't go wrong with Sage, they have earned they're reputation in the fishing world.

Cheers,
Dimitri

your gonna convert that to a float rod i think i might cry lol

The VXP is one of the top rods in that price range. Maybe the top. Hardy Marksman and Winston GVX are right there as well. Might I inquire as to the reason you are getting a 6wt? The only reason that I ask is guys often buy a 6wt feeling that they are a good, all rounder but in reality they often become the least used rod in one's arsenal. Unless this is a dedicated streamer rod or bass rod, it becomes too much rod for much of our trout fishing here in southern Ontario and not enough rod for steelhead. That said, the VXP is a peach!

I use the 6 wt i have now for everything bass, steelhead, and resident trout. I don't do much resident trout fishing tho. Maybe twice or three times a year.

lol all these expensive cool fly rods, im using a 80$ rod i got as a gift and love it its a 5-6wt and i have no problem getting salmon on them
