Hey guys,

This past year we had some amazing salmon fishing in BC, as usual. Not to mention that 100% of our clients limited out on tasty halibut. Plus great other bottomfishing as well. We get some massive Springs out here in BC, with the average size this past summer being around 28lbs. However, this upcoming summer is the year when all the 6 and 7 year olds come back to the rivers, so, as 2 years ago, the expected avg size this upcoming summer should be around 35lbs. And boy do they fight in the salt water. Plus we have extremely generous limits in BC and the fishery is fairly well kept as well. So if you are interested in a great fishing trip for this upcoming summer, give our website a check and/or phone us. Any of you guys get out to BC this past summer? If so whereabouts and with who? Hope it was a great trip if you did!! Hope to hear from you soon,

Sounds like you had a great time. I'd like to do that some day. I've fished a lot of salt water, but not out west. I would really like to primarily target halibut & other bottom fish, with salmon as a close second.

My only concern is the roughness of the water. I have heard that there could be some major ocean swells. When you fished for halibut, were you out in some rough water, or were you fishing a protected area? I see in some salmon photos, you were in a protected area, but is that the same case for halibut?

Where did you fish out of?

Hey there,

I wasn't the fisherman (except for in 2 of the pictures)...I'm the guide haha. But yes, every day is a great day for me during the summer. In terms of bottomfish, it's extremely easy to catch halibut, 100% of our clients limited out this summer on halibut. And anyone who wanted to target lingcod, or other species of cod, limited out on them as well. Red Snapper (Yelloweye Rockfish) are delicious and they are fairly plentiful in our area around rock pinnacles. Where we go out of Port Hardy, you are only about 1 mile away from shore in each direction except west. So you do get rollers, but not as bad as say the West Coast (where we also fish, as we have 2 boats, one out of Hardy and one out of the West Coast). The rollers during the summer will vary, some days it may be flat calm and others could be bumpy, but this past summer it was relatively nice weather, with avg. rollers being around 1m, especially in July. We only had one group get sea sick with us this year, and they were from Alberta. Halibut fishing you will have swells, but like I said, this past year it was pretty calm with only about 1m swells.

We guide out of Port Hardy on Northern Vancouver Island, feel free to check out our website. http://www.serengetifishingcharters.com. Thinking of taking a trip?

...someday, I would definitely like to make a trip! Meanwhile, I'll have to settle for lower Niagara River Salmon!

Things are heating up at the whirlpool for you shore fisherman & the lower Niagara is a great place to drift a roe bag! Fall fishing is great - don't put that tackle away just yet.

Happy fishin,

nice fish we do have some huge salmon here in bc
my biggest this year was 43lbs but the average is about 20 - 35 lbs
and harder to keep on because of the single barbless hooks boy they can jump!!!

Boys, its almost that time again! Halibut fishing is really taking off now and the migratory salmon are starting to run through now! CAN'T WAIT!!! This weekend we are headed out and I'm expecting some bigggg hali's to hit the boat deck!

Cheers,
David
