Sorry to hear that.
Two suggestions to minimize rod breakage.
NEVER lock down your drag setting .Either manually or mechanically.
Bring fish in with a side sweeping angle not a direct 90 degree tip to butt force.
Works for me.

Yeah it was my fault for having the drag a little too tight.
Now I'm stuck using a Shimano Sojourn 7 foot medium fast action rod for float fishing until I get a new float rod. lol
Do you know of any good rods that you would suggest. I can only pay up to 100 dollars as I'm only 15 and I don't have a part-time job.
My previous rod was an Amundson 9 and a half foot medium light fast action (paired with a Shimano Sienna 2500).

5 days straight fishing. 2 steels 1 brown and countless salmon....I'd say that isn't enough rain to bring in a lot of steels in. The popular spots are expected to get the crowds in...they didn't disappoint. Etiquette are again thrown out the window in times like these.What's up with people casting over each other's lines? Though that only happens in PH....lol...

Don’t forget, you don’t need to go to see PH, PH can come to see you. People get excited they see the Steel and Browns coming in sitting behind the Salmon. When the weather gets colder , it all gets better.

Did you find the hot weather affect your fishing and the quality of meat this year?

Went to my spot this weekend and the chinooks were hardly in. The pinks had been in for a couple of weeks now and are not moving further upstream. Got one but the meat didn't look good. Or I might be too late, but I doubt it

Yeah surprisingly and it's gross, would never eat a salmon in the river it's old beat up and u gotta think what 5-6 years in Lake Ontario does to a fish

5-6 years in the lake? Chinook salmon spend 3 years in the lake. Also, I wouldn't eat anything from Lake Ontario.

Chinnys take 5-6 Years to mature before they spawn, that includes the time spent as little fry in the rivers before making it to the lake.

Don't forget the jacks.
Both Chinook and coho.
Will spawn 1-2 years early.
Which is good actually.
Produce genes in other year classes.

Surprisingly salmon still haven't ran in numbers on the south shores from what I've seen,hopefully the rain brings colder weather,do I need to change my setup for steelhead or is it the same as for salmon just lighter line/smaller hooks?

For steelhead, and migratory brown trout I use:

Mainline: 8-10 lb test mono
Leader: Redwing tackle phantom fluorocarbon leader material - 4.4, 5.6, 6.6, 7.6
hooks: size 10-14
