Lightweight :p
17 hours is my personal record, but I'm almost as nutty as the guys going out in pontoon boats, if you've fished the N.Shore for more than a season and seen the guy going out by himself in the green canoe, that's me.
That's awesome, if you can, pm me tips on how to deal with big O's waves... man gosh they were brutal.

This.
Look at a stocking list, look where there are OFFSHORE winds, go to where the fish are on. Between Niagara & Port Hope there's only about 50 places to catch salmon where you don't have to floss them in a ditch.

As for the trollers looking for low hanging fruit, bring back the closed reports forums and you'll start to see more fish reports. I've seen fifty guys show up at a single spot in January because somebody posted on the internet the fish were on.

I'm not sure if you guys realize it, but to newbies you sound like you're speaking in code. It's very difficult to understand some of this info. First of all, where can I find out if there are offshore winds? What's a stocking list?

I'll try to answer these questions on my own and see how I do. Offshore winds... can't find the right keywords in google. Stocking list... OK so you're saying to find out where MNR is putting salmon babies because they always go back to where they spawned.

There's only about 50 places to catch salmon? No wonder I haven't caught any. I just followed somebody else's advice on a different forum to go to "any lake ontario trib".

When he says offshore winds he means a wind blowing in a certain direction.

This time of year when the lake hasnt flipped yet you want the warm water of the trib to blow out, and the cold water of the lake to blow in.

As for stocking, you are correct, its where the MNR and other conservation groups stocked salmon. Even some tribs that didn't get stocked get a few salmon running up.

When he says 50 places to catch salmon, thats 50 tribs... thats alot of tribs.. I dont even think I know 50 tribs between port hope and niagara. ( Maybe like,. 20 lol ) And I can tell you where the fish are on any given day. It's good to make friends on all sides of the lake :)

welcome to the club....lol...
once to start its hard to stop.
lol

Yeah you're right... I already have the itch again!!! XD

I didn't think I'd enjoy close-quarters fishing until today. Playing a hooked lunker upstream, the splashing, the slime! So epic without the hassles of my canoe. What truly beautiful fish they are.

Plus, I'm pretty sure these are the biggest species that frequent Ontario, right? I mean unless you're going for giant carp or giant pike/musky?

EDIT: or lake sturgeon... but that's not permitted nor do I have any idea how to fish a sturgeon lol
