Hello guys.

"Friendly Salmon Competition + Get Together"?

What do you guys think of having a one day salmon pier fishing for biggest fish competition?
Everybody pitch in $5 entry fee and winner take all ? just to the motivation going~

Here are some problems... since it is shore fishing you are not guranteed to catch anything for hours if any.
Once the salmons really start to run... shorelines likely be shoulder to shoulder even during early morning or evening hours of weekdays. Still better than weekends. Than again rainy day is better because a lot of people won't bother.

Maybe we'll do it over 2 day period to give more chance to catch fish... but not 2 days back to back. 2nd day could be few days later or a week later.

Another problem is location. Sure majority of members here live some what close? But either way... I think even a gathering of few members is good thing. I am sure Openfire can take atleast one day off his busy life too.

Maybe we'll do it a weekday? Come on people... just do one sick call :D It's there for a reason. LOL

Anyways,, it is still early in season so reply if you are interested and share some ideas on date(s)/location/time of the day/etc...? and other things so we can have a fun time together.

So yeah... tell us what would be the best way to make this happen.

Thank you.!

Oh yeah...
I guess one of the requirement will be to bring a print out of OFF logo ... maybe with your user name too.

that's a cool idea.wait till end of Aug and we will talk about it for sure.thx

Good Idea.

Humber or ash bridges are the only places where it isn’t shoulder to shoulder in the fall.

I'm thinking it might also be nice for those who can afford it to all chip in on a salmon charter for the day and go that way?

At least we are guaranteed a winner?

we should talk about it now and maybe change the date/location later.

I think it is a great idea...it will give me a chance to try my Shakesphere Ugly stick 9 foot light action rod. I might hafta buy a new reel for it...now talking dates...I have heard about guys catching at ashbridges bay just this week...the weekdays are always good for me, as well as the weekends, hell, anytime you guys wanna go I am in...I was ust asking last week about OFF events...now this will be the first...great idea, and now I am excited. If there is anything I can do to help organize...like I said I have lotsa free time so let me know. I know Tangledline will be into it as well...he just needs notice to get the day off work.

Better believe i'd be into it....a fishing day is better than most other days...even when you lose your lures....get tangled up...break your rod(big fish only...car doors suck)...or even when you get skunked and your buddy catches the whopper of his life....its worth all the effort for the enjoyment it brings to be outdoors on the water and share the experience with a friend...if anyone who regularly catches salmon can share pointers before the fish outing it would be muucho appreciated...not too worldly in salmon fishing knowledge....but excited as an 8 year old to give er a try...

Well, let's start with a somewhat proper fishing gear. You don't want to be fighting a fish for 20+minutes and hold up everybody else along the shore line, right? (Fishing Net with Looong handle, you'll be shock to see people fishing at the piers and doesn't bother bringing a net and just wants to use other peoples net.) You might see some friendly fishers who may/likely?or something and offer to net the fish for you. And when the time comes, you do the same and such. If you got one of those random dicks that don't even bring a net and just screams "HEY! BUDDY! (i ain't your buddy) Can you net the fish here?" (I like to say F'off in my mind).
If you have a somewhat larger hoop net with long enough handle you can land the fish by yourself easy.

Other than that... it's no brainer. Just cast some spoons, or Rapala J13's and just play around with depth/speed.
That is all.

Oh yeah,,, I'll tell you one thing. You will not get any nibbling from the fish.

yes Ashbridge Bay Park got some fishes coming IN & OUT. If you time it good there you'll catch a few fish.... which is good. If not... you just get to watch butt load of salmon jumping around.
You might get some pikes there too. Brown trouts too.

Can not believe you gotta pay for Parking @ the Ashbridge Bay park parking now. So stupid.

Ok...

To those that are interested...

reply back with the following...

1. Which day of the week would you prefer?

2. Early morning? (before sunrise) or evening? (into the night)

3. $5 entry fee and winner take all? (Yes/No, I got no money) We'll only do it if we can more than handful of people.

4. Biggest fish by length. or weight? (I think BigFish win by length is better option)

Ok I am in...Mornings are always good for me... and anyday of the week other than Mondays is good for me as well. I like fish by weight, but will go with length, if that is the cncenssous. I will throw in 5 bucks, just to make it interesting. Lets get it on!

I'd be interested in any competition.

Mickey --> be a little nicer man people always help each other out on the water "it's a fishing net in the end get thing in perspective" can't say I've meet any jerks like that on the water and if someone said I couldn't use there net just to spite me I guarantee that net would be in my hands or the rest of there day they would be miserable!

Never meet anyone other fisherman who wouldn't help another out. Holly flip there are bigger problems in life get over it and build up some fishing carma.

I do offer people help with netting (even with my 'not the best net' net). It's just that I have seen some not so friendly fishermen that gets me in ugly mood. But I do always start with a good mood. :) atleast i try to.

For those who have shown interests... which week of which month is best for you?
Start replying so we can get a general idea of which week might be best for majority.

I'll wold like first week of September.?

People need to specify exactly what week, what day, what time of the day is good for you.!

So we can get some general ideas other than just people saying "i'll join in too"

Thank you.

I think we should make it as early as possible to try to fish with less? of a crowd~

Than again people are already fishing to check out the water.

It will only get busier so...

Please give feedbacks.

Ok...

Once and for all...

Should we/I just set the date and call it at that and who ever shows up shows up
or
do you want to make it a certain date? because I am not hearing any date/time from most of you.
