Scugog Causeway

Any thoughts went there for 2 days ago and was very slow compared to the last few years. I know its a popular known spot but still has it restrictions on people fishing there.

The only time I recommend going there is if it is the season opener for walleye. Maybe a week after max but the fishing there really is not that great just because it is over fished and everything gets kept by people who show up with giant buckets. I actually almost grabbed a guy and threw him into the water because he caught a small very small walleye and he tossed it into his bucket. As soon as I watched that I walked over and asked to see his bucket, he was very hesitant and asked if I was a cop. I told him no but I wanted to see the walleye he caught because I have never seen one. Like the idiot he was he showed me and I grabbed it and threw it back. He shouted a few curse words and me and I told him he was lucky I was not a cop. Some people are just so ignorant to the laws/regulations. Even if you were able to keep a walleye that could fit in your hand, WHY WOULD YOU?

well i read an article saying on how the walleye population for scugog has decreased dramatically. the lake i find has been low on all fish except for bass and useless fish i.e. sunfish&rock-bass the best time to catch walleye in the causeway is during opening season for walleye and the following month. the area is completely overfished with people who keep every walleye excluding size/weight. it is truly unfortunate because it is ruining a good fishing experience for all people

I admit it, I"M SELFISH *SMILES* I want the fish to be there for an awful long time.

Look, I would never say " Dont have a nice fish dinner" or if you have never experienced a fish, Hell take it home and enjoy!

It's the SELFISH GREEDY STUPID BAS**RDS who seem to think that every fish they catch is too be TAKEN, that really bothers me.

I would never say they are "Breaking the Law" (IF you are following the Regs, so be it)



However, a COMMON SENSE APPROACH to SUSTAINABILITY would be a decent starting point.

I honestly think the MNR has given up on these. Some of them cannot even read, let alone identify the fish, know the regs, etc.

Yahh I totally have to agree! Some people that fish there just have no respect for fish. As you can see in my past post as I ranted about such people. It gets me so angry seeing people that are like that. And I wish the MNR would just send people there daily. I'm sure they'll get enough money after a few tickets to higher people to check more often

last time i was out my jighead was completeley missing the hook point i still fished it all day and was able to land a few but so many got away

I believe Lake Scugog is a lake gripped in the battle of eutrophication and will likely never be a great walleye lake again. The lake is shallow to be gin with and the excess influx of nutrients from farms, fertilizers, animal waste adds fuel to the massive weed growth that can choke the lake. Ingredients for a good bass lake until the weed growth, sunlight burning thru a thin ozone and silt run-off make the lake a shallow, oxygen starved body of water.

I wonder if anyone catches small walleye, say 10 inches or less? Are they indeed reproducing?

havent fished it for awhile but it was pretty hot a couple years back there and there was good variance in years classes. we mostly casted cranks and drifted crawler harnesses around viewlake and caesarea

I've never caught a walleye in my life at scugog yet, but I'm considering ice fishing in the new year. Last summer was not the best fishing experience, indeed it is important for catch and release. Hopefully I'll be finally be able to catch a walleye in the new year during ice fishing. I've seen plenty of commercial walleye at fish markets selling for 3.99 a pound. Still always wanted to catch a scugog walleye. Will definitely release any small fish lol. Been releasing a lot of good sized fish every since I caught the big one.
