Hey guys I heard some mix reviews about this ugly stick replacement which supposedly is as durable and much lighter the shimano voltaeus has anyone have had any experience using these rods. I am thinking of picking one up just for the sake of having it always in the car in case I want to do some fishing out of the blue if the opportunity presents itself.

I (physically) picked one up in Bass Pro and can't say that I was particularly impressed with the balance and feel of the stick. It feels very spongy and heavy to me. Mind you, all of my ugly stiks are light to UL unlike the voltaeus that I picked up. My money would go elsewhere personally.

Whats the price of a voltaeus? Couldn't find it on the Shimano site? They have the prices of other rods, just not that one. Thanks.

Dirk

Dirk, I believe they are sub $50 rods. 39.99 USD for the shorter and 49.99 for the longer ones (7') In Canada, I would assume you can walk out the door with one for about $50-60 + tax.

To be honest, I wanted to buy them sometime last year, and I guess it would be an average rod to use. Can't tell you about sensitivity, but I can tell you they are kind of heavy after playing with them at Basspro earlier.

Actually these rods go for around 69.99 at BPS. Le Baron has it about $10 cheaper. To me I feel it doesn't have enough backbone for my type of fishing. You really need to load up to get a proper hook set as they have a very soft action to them.

Le Baron is a bad word in our house. Never had good service from them. Tried to return a bad reel that was used once and all I got was static. Never thought they cared wether you were their customer or not.
Bass Pro opened and after many purchases, I've never looked back. They know what their talking about and care about their customers, be they experienced anglers or first timers.
Wasn't impressed about the Voltaeus. Not enough umph for me and wasn't happy with the balance. I'll spend a bit more and be happy.
Cheers
Cramden
