And this the same place that my cousin caught the biggest perch I've ever seen (non-jumbo) and biggest rock bass. This is also where I caught my first and only drum, weighing in at 7.5 lbs.
However, the fishing there is slow this year compared to the 4 years previous. I have never gone more than twice in a row without landing a pike. Usually get some half to one pound smallies at least but four times this year on this water and not a single pike. I wonder if the harsh winter had anything to do with it.
Last night I also brought my girl cousin fishing for the very first time and she landed a half pound smallie. However, more interestingly, we encountered cormorants (diving and fishing), a cool looking bird I can't name, two deer, a beaver (doing his tail splash), a mink, and a heron that picked up a baby pike about 6 inches. He picked it up and was playing around with it for a good 30 seconds and I wanted to get it on video but right when I turned it on he finally swallowed it and you could see his throat widen as he did. Very cool. My cousin had never seen or paid attention to any of these in her 21 years. I've seen all this before except the heron eating the pike. Bastard...
Silver bass was new to me though.
That's the beauty of creeks and rivers. Never know what you're gonna get. Anything can come and go.
