Well this year I was spoiled for my birthday and recieved a GoPro Hero4 Silver edition. With one more shot at Simcoe lakers for this years hardwater season I was determined to get some good footage. I learned quite a few filming lessons while on the ice and I am already excited with new idea's for next years hard water season.

This video is really the crown jewel of my whole ice fishing season, I am so happy with the way it turned out. My bait had been dead sticking for 5-10 minutes before the video starts while I was setting up the snow pod to get a good shot of the screen. A laker must have been checking out my swammer from a distance as it didn't take long for some jigging to attract a curious fish. I need to start filming my sonar more often as it seems the fish come on the screen as soon as the camera starts rolling.

Here is a clip of the first fish of the day. A much nicer fish but with the video camera facing the wrong way at the beginning of the video its clear I needed a bit of practice. At least there's some good comedy in there lol.

Finally here is some sonar footage of one of those fish that keeps me awake at night. I ask myself, what did I do wrong? Should I have started reeling later? Reeled faster? Kept reeling rather than drop the bait back down to the fish? Simcoe lakers can be frustrating and I am still a long long way from mastering the art of angling these top predators. Lets hear it, what would you have done differently with this fish?

As my season comes to a close I am reminded of the fact that I didn't catch a single fish this year that was small enough by my standards to take home and put in the smoker. I'm still not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

oh man when that laker was rising on the first vid i felt the excitement lol. great vid bro

as for not catching any smaller ones i think its just a simcoe thing man, that lake they all tend to be large in my experience. you should try some lakes further north. i dont know if its a good or bad thing either but its the way it is ;)

as weird as it might sound, one day when the fish were "playing" with my emotions in the same way as that third vid, we just left a jigging rap as a dead stick on the side and sure enough the tip went down after a few minutes. after we landed that one the same marker that had been toying with us for the past hour no longer showed up so i assume it was that same fish. its hard to say what would have worked on your day there, but it just seemed to me that the movement brought it in from afar but on closer examinination and it didnt want to work as hard to eat what you had. could have not been as hungry or just a lazy fish.

anyways enjoying the new videos brother keep it up

Nice fish! For me its been a weird year, in northern lakes where I usually get Lakers up to 4-5 lbs Max, I've been getting simcoe sized tanks. Simcoe especially near the beginning of winter I was getting amazing action but all the Lakers were small, as the season went further I started getting more and more bigger fish until I wasn't getting any small ones at all, max. Maybe 1 a day. Whities have been steady all around 4 lbs though. Oh and as for the mark that wasn't hitting, simcoe fish can be like that, especially whities, all I can say is have patience and keep following the fish until it hits.

^ if i'm not reading it wrong, there are two fish that rise but only one is picked up by the sonar right away.

Starts off with a fish (or fishes) on the bottom.. he drops the lure to make them chase cause they weren't interested at first. Brings the bait back up and...

At 40s, you see the lure at the top, a solid line below it and a few faint marks towards the bottom.. for whatever reason, that fish wasn't picked up as well as the first.

the 2nd chases the bait, and the first one just swims off. On the right side top panel at about 1:00 mark, fish 2 decided it wasn't interested, NADO says wtf and chases the fish with the lure... fish 2 is like, wtf?! this mah home bitch how you gonna step like that?.. and chases the lure again..

if you recall high school days where one person pushes the other and they're like "wanna step bitch?" and it's a shoving match for a minute or two? That's what's happening for the rest of the time until one backs away and in this case, NADO loses cause the fish swam off.

Yep you got it shawarma. I was really surprised that fish didn't hit, I have lots of fish chase and turn away but this is one of those fish that really makes you wonder. When it started approaching my lure it was already swimming at a good pace, then when I started reeling it went into top gear. Usually when they go into top gear they always hit and it doesn't matter how fast you reel they are going to smash your bait.

I think with this fish I was a bit too excited and started too early and reeled too fast. But as Bowslayer said simcoe Lakers can be dicks and maybe this one just wasn't meant to be.

That third video got my heart racing, what a pleasant surprise that second fish. I would of waited to let that sucker come closer before I started reeling the first chase but what do I know. If that fish was in 6 inches of water in a river I know of a way you could of got it landed :)

Its the Rapala M3, the M2 is big enough but the M3 is more comfortable to stand in

I just watched all of those video's again and now my excitement levels are the highest they have been since last December.

Even though I know the outcome of the last video I still hope you land it every time I watch it lol. I'm so effn pumped for this season.

January is gonna be amazing.
