Before I head out to the river I usually like to get my rig set-up and ready to go. I normally use the Raven in line fixed stem floats with the silicone tubing http://www.raventackle.com/products_detail_floats.php

I have never used a slip float, but I'd like to try them. Wondering if there is one particular size/brand etc of float that can be used on bigger water but can also be used on shallow/slower waters, sort of a universal size without having to cut and re-tie? Looking for a simple but effective method.

Thanks,

I would suggest a 6 or 8 gram Drennan float. Put your float stop on the line followed by a small bead then a split shoot below to peg it in place then tie on your shot , if you use one, and leader.

Im with Staffman, Id say a 6gr drennan piker.. As long as youre a confident caster you should be able to get good distance out of it on larger rivers and like wise wont have a huge foot print in the smaller creeks. My setup uses a black bird float stop up top, the float, a small bead and then my shot pattern on my mainline.
