Small Carp - Where are they

Just thought today when I was doing some fishing why I have never caught a small carp, the smalist I have ever got was maybe 4 pounds.

Awesome question. I've observed the same phenomenon.

I don't think I've ever caught a carp under 5 pounds and usually all over 10. And I've caught well over 100 carp. hhhhmmmmm...

Anyone?

Caught a 1lb or so carp on the Conestogo at the falls (old mill damn) near St Jacobs right near the bridge a couple weeks ago. Only about 3ft of water and a decent speed. There are a lot of smaller fish up there... never seen all the other people that fish near the falls catch anything but 6inch or so fish.

I go for the large rock bass for my son and the odd small mouth. I have caught really small carp there as well (I think).

I've seen carp swimming next to me so big on the C-river that I mistook their dorsal fin for a fish and the whole carp as a giant rock! I was flabbergasted when I realized what I was actually looking at.

Cool it is still odd why they are not more common, for carp it seems backwards all you catch is big fish lol.

It was still annoying to be able to hook into my first carp and end up with those. It's also weird because with small hooks you had absolutely no change of catching them, while on larger hooks you did.

If someone wants to specifically target baby carp, i know a great place in the GTA relatively close to home.

Most f the folks that fish the body f water are azn's who collect the fish in their signature white buckets and take em home for a fish fry, maybe baby carp taste better ?

There are lots of small carp. You have to target them to catch them. Smaller hooks, smaller baits and so on. A lot of the time if you get into smaller carp it is not long before the older and bigger fish move in and out compete them for food.
Here's a monster. It is actually a wild goldfish but I did get some some common carp that time as well.

Always wanted to go Gold Fish fishing, for the novelty.

Never ate carp, but would be interesting to make a "Fillet-o-Goldfish" But the new McDonalds commercial, for the fillet-o-fish, makes me want to make a goldfish burger.

When I was a kid I caught a big goldfish in the back of Hamilton Harbour. It was over 3 lbs. I dutifully scaled, gutted and removed it's head. When I brought it home my mother freaked. I don't know what happened to the carcass.
