Hey guys. Yesterday brought some absolutely beautiful weather which I could't pass on the opportunity to get to my go to trout stream for spring time browns and specks. This little creek over the years has been consistent for my the last couple of years, catching fish anywhere from 8"-12" as the average. Its quite the bush whacking experience so it makes for a great morning or evening when you have lots of time to fish. Not many people know about this creek, I believe KIT, here on OFF is one of the few people that I know has fished this creek.
As I walked down to the stream, I noticed a little bit more garbage and crap than usual, which made me a bit frustrated but I continued on to my spots. I spent about 2.5 hours of the morning fishing old spots, as well as some new spots which looked very promising. I was fishing with my 4'6" UL trout rod, with a #0 mepps, changing from brass, gold and silver when I was needing a change. Those usually produce great results for me here. Also, as a relatively new fly fisherman I have brought my rod down there a couple times, but it is just so hard to maneuver my way around with many bushes and trees over hanging the area. Im sure it can be done, but I need more practice. I hit many spots, and nothing. Usually since the fish are so spooky I get a hit here and there and then the fish take off, but I didn't have any action for a while.
After my gopro died (without me noticing lol), I made my way to another part where I have never fished before. Once again, some garbage and stuff all over. This made me pretty mad. I kept fishing, and threw a pretty long cast towards some slow moving water. I wasn't expecting much but something hit my spinner pretty hard. And for small trout creek I was caught off guard. Not knowing what was on my line for about 30-40 seconds, I finally saw what I had got myself into. My PB Brown trout. It was about 17-18 inches. And put up a phenomenal fight. I made my way down to the bank to net the fish, (I attached the photos) I noticed a VERY unhealthy looking fish. Usually when I catch trout, I notice the look of perfection and am impressed with how untouched they look. This big brown looked beat up, with some scratches on its body, the dorsal fin was all ripped, and somewhat white around its eyes. After taking 2 quick photos, I wanted to get the fish back into the water as soon as possible. I was very happy I caught this fish, but also extremely worried about the health of the fish and the creek.
Why would a fish be looking like the way it did? I am just worried that this stream which holds a lot of great fish is on its way down.
After I returned the fish, I packed up my gear and made my way back to the car. Picking up garbage from around the area and in the water on the way.

Last season I purchased a GoPro Hero 3+ and have been filming and taking stills with it quite frequently when im fishing and hiking. This time I took the time to actually put the clips together for my first ever video made. Usually I would just watch them after for my own enjoyment, maybe post on social media for friends to see etc. If any of you have any tips for gopro videos, regarding settings, tips for making better finished products ETC., it would be very helpful! As many of you know I am moving out to Alberta for the summer, and will be using it a lot!
