Go after common carp and give em to a local farmer. You can have tons of fun and are helping out the environment, especially if you do it in an isolated fishery. Some people try to protect common carp and might give you a hard time but that will all change when asian carp get here and common sense is restored. Too bad it takes something as extreme as that.

Ive been looking into bow fishing but I just have too many wants. Im keeping my eye out at a local bow shop for a used compound bow, should be able to get into it for around $200 with a used bow. It would be a blast standing up on my kayak bow fishing for carp.

A nice video of you impaling a few hundred carp and leaving them to die of asphyxiation on the bank would be great ammo for PETA, who are doing their best to ban all fishing.

Do you have any books on fishing? Look up the whole meaning and history of sport fishing.

The sporting angler respects his prey, forgoing bait, and plastic monstrosities, eventually graduating to fly fishing with small imitative flies and (reasonably) light tippets that give the fish a sporting chance.

If you just want to kill animals for no purpose, why not use poison, or dynamite, or leg traps?

I can't be sure exactly what I'd do if I caught somebody bowfishing, but at the very least I'd be getting some fresh CO2 and paintballs.

As far as moral goes, I'v had people complain that catch and release is stressing and torturing the fish. In a way, its true. We do stress every fish we catch, and may torture some of them. Have that stopped you, or any other fisherman, or people who watch fishing on TV from stopping to enjoy it? most often, probably not.

im a bow hunter my self, after the typical deer and turkey. No black bears yet. Ive looked into bow fishing and it seems the only fish we would be able to target are carp and suckers. To me that would be a waste , as i don't eat either and they would definitely die after being shot. Also the legal WMUs seem to be pretty far from us. If we could sight bow hunt for more edible fish i think i definitely would give it a shot.

Carp are invasive so really you are helping the fishery out. When asian carp get here are you still going to be douching around in the same fashion when people talk about bowfishing for them?

As for bowfishing for any other species I am completely against it so good thing its not legal. They need to take bowfin out of the species that can be targeted with a bow.

Ive never bow fished before, but I remember watching a guy do it up in hastings for like an hour.

It was pretty cool.

He was sniping carp from atop the lock, and he gave the fish to the philipino families who wanted them.

Id try it out.

You can expect a lot more stares though from the yuppies though.
