There are so many soft baits out there and in so many different colours that the choices are endless. Factor in all the different manufactures, it makes it a daunting task to choose. What is the weirdest shape or colour that you have had success with?

Everything on the market look all weird, don't you think so ?

Jig? What is jig suppose to be?
Soft stick bait like Senko? What the heck is it? I bet there is no such thing in the water.

Colours... pink? what on earth have colour like that swimming in our water? (maybe lake ontario)

I never use the funky colors, like pink or lime glowing green, I try and stick to natural colors, with flecks of silver in them, or I use black or plain white. Thats about it though, I like the bigger and chunky ones, the ones that look like frogs, or mice I find work well.

I can understand brown, or green, black for natural colours that fish recognise, but the bright red, purple, and even chartreuse colour doesn't look anything that might resemble nature. The weird shapes maybe work to accentuate the flapping of limbs and show movement which might be attractive to fish.
A jig is suppose resemble a crawfish and a senko is suppose to imitate a worm which do occasionally fall into the water.
Maybe the weird colour that attracts fish is more a case of curiosity or territorial protection than something to eat.

I have to agree with spinninreel here, I have had some great luck with bright red 6inch minnows, and even Pink!
Fish just seem to be more interested in something they dont see everyday, and I think depending on water clarity a bright coloured bait might help your chances if you are targetting a certain species.
I have had great luck with the larger baits this year, and one of my personal favortes for walleye is the white jig, dont know why but the seem to hammer that one everytime.

Is it illegal to use live perch as a bait ?
what are you planning to catch?

Perch could be quite deadly bait for Walleye and Pike we humans are not the only ones that discovered the fact that perch are tasty :|

I'm not sure if you're saying that perch is excellent bait to be used for fishing or not, but I think that we should all just stick to using perch patterned lures instead of getting screwed over by a fine issued by a Conservation Officer.

All I meant to say is that it would make a great bait if you could use it because Pike and Walleye love to eat them I am not suggesting we participate in an illegal activity and use perch as bait. Just simply stating the fact that other carnivorous fish love to eat perch.

This is true, it is a favorite of both species. Spend the $6 for a bag of soft jigs with the hooks already in them, I have some 4inch hologram perch baits that work amazing for both fish back at my cottage, usually when I am out in the boat I will just let on drag beside the boat in the bottom when im just casting to shore with my other road, and many a times I have had to leave the bail open on my casting rod and dive for the other, walleye love these jigs, but i would use a trailoer/stinger hook with them in case they are biting shy.
