Today i went down to my favourite panfish spot and got there at about 6:30 am. The rockies were on, along with a few sunfish and a white perch.

The day started off on the first cast

Got some pumpkinseed and a few green sunfish, then got this tank

Kept on fishing with some small rockbass and sunfish and then got this nice largie. The picture does it no justice, and it had to be at least 4lbs

That was just a few nicest ones of the day, and then at lunch the fishing died off. I was using a 7ft ultralight BPS rod with a ultralight mitchell reel and 4lb test. All in all a very good day, with at least 40 fish caught.

Cheers!

looks like a nice little pond, people underestimate how fun it can be to catch these smaller bass/panfish, i've been thinking of buying an ultra light setup just for these occasions, thanks for the report!

I must find a new location because I'm tired of only catching this lately

nice job cat, looks like you had a great day at that pond, with a mix of fish anyway thanks for sharing

Nice day of fishing! As for using an ultra light rod, people have no idea how fun it is to catch fish on them. Almost as fun as bringing in a 6 pound small mouth on a drop shot! Hearing the line take off is the best with these rods. I wish you would have taken a better picture of the bass though because that pic does not do any justice to make it look 4 pounds!

This is only my second time out with the ultralight. The largie didnt want his picture taken so while i was getting pliers i laid him down in the shallows and he seemed content there so i took the pic. Oh ya and all of the fish were safely released!

Congrats, 40 fish is a lot, were you using lures or bait fishing?
I used 1 quarter of a worm on a small orange/yellow jighead with a small thill bobber for most of the fish, except two of them. The biggest rockie with the big tree in the background was caught on a small green spinnerbait, along with a wild 8 inch smallie that spit the hook in the shallows after 2 big jumps which suprised me, but it was fun.

Those are some beasts lol. Try different spots. Also, rivers that connect to a great lake tend to have bigger panfish, and also more rock bass.

Also guys that was a lake O trib, not a pond.

Those are some great fish! Ultra-lights for panfish are one of my most favourite techniques. The bass thrown in always make it fun too.

Im loving it already, and it just adds do much more fun to catching little fish and i found that its better for setting the hook on small fish.

Ya ultra light fishing is the best. I love just spending a day at the local creek catching rock bass, little 10 inch smallmouth and hammerhandle pike on the ultralight
